Cinthya Garcia-Cisneros gave a nervous smile before she spoke through tears.
Dressed in jail scrubs Friday, she addressed the parents of Anna Dieter-Eckerdt, 6, and Abigail Robinson, 11, who were killed when she drove through a leaf pile where the girls were playing.

Garcia-Cisneros testified that when she passed over it, she felt a bump and thought shed run over a rock.
She continued driving around the block to her familys home. Her brother hopped on his bicycle and pedaled back to the leaf pile, where he saw Tom Robinson standing over the girls, who were on the ground.
Within minutes of the crash, Garcia-Cisneros learned from her brother that shed struck the girls.
Bracken McKey, a senior deputy district attorney, told jurors Oregons hit-and-run statute required Garcia-Cisneros to go back to the scene and provide information to authorities.... One law for Americans and one law for illegals.............Garcia-Cisneros will likely be taken to an immigration detention center in Tacoma, Wash., and appear in immigration court for a bond hearing. If Garcia-Cisneros qualifies for bond, which could cost her up to $20,000, she may be released while her immigration case is pending, Carter said..Sure,sure,sure... Had this been an American who cause this same accident they would still be and jail and the families would be filing lawsuits demanding money, demanding jail time..
The bereaved family have my sympathy. The driver is indeed a "border-crasher," and the authorities should deal with her accordingly (but I know: They probably won't).
But is it actually correct here to speak of a "crash?" That makes it sound less sinister than it was: A hit-and-run case.
Regards,
Was she DUI?
The GOP will fumble the hand off and the other team will recovery without a doubt.
And by other team I mostly mean the same team.
For some reason the press has bee extremely sympathetic to this piece of trash. It has come across in every story I’ve seen. Its sick.
May be “released while her immigration case is pending”.
To avoid jail time, 100 to 1 odds she quickly “migrates” back to Mexico IF she gets released.
Mrs Robinson is a saint.
More likely she'll just go to her local fake I.D. supplier and then shelter in place. She may have to move across town but she'll keep her illegally gained job and things that she has gained with that job.
I blame the father just as much or more than her for the girls’ deaths. He left them playing in the street. No parent does that. Who knows how long he would have left them out there if he hadn’t heard the car and had a “sinking feeling.” Everyone agrees Cisneros couldn’t have known the girls were in the leaves. Many teen drivers and a number of adults would be tempted to drive through a big pile of leaves.
It’s what they did later that adds to the horror. After her brother told her what had happened, they went for ice cream and to Walmart. The next day the boyfriend washed evidence off his mother’s SUV and is serving 18 months for that.
She was brought over by her parents when she was little but does have a temporary work permit.
I couldn’t disagree more.
One wonders if they are the same folks who would bristle in outrage over any perceived interference by the Church in the affairs of State, such as denying a lease or mortgage to any of them living in sin, or having prayers in schools, or closing all abortion facilities, or recriminalizing non-matrimonial sexual behavior?
When we were little kids we were warned repeatedly about the dangers of playing in piles of leaves in the streets, about the gruesome results of being squashed like bugs by drivers who couldn’t tell that little kids might be playing inside the piles. So, we would make the best of it by playing in the leaf piles BEFORE they were raked into the street.
Any parent letting their child play in a pile of leaves in any road or even driveway is an idiot and the primary bad actor in this tragedy. It just by chance that this young woman was the one to drive over the leaves first. Not coming forward and washing the car made an accident into a crime.
I agree that the question is given the fact that Cisneros did not “return to the scene and give the cops information” .....”was it right that she got probation?”
My answer is that I don’t know enough details about the law in question so my opinion should not count for much. Was she licensed? Was she insured? Was speeding involved? Drugs? Booze? Distracted on a cell phone? Boyfriend distraction? Right side of street? And, on and on. Apparently the investigation resolved her of any such guilt?
I do know that if I were the dad I would already have checked out on life. There is no way I could live with the guilt. A fathers first duty is to protect two little girls EVERY SECOND and he failed in that duty.
I raised a young girl and a boy to adult success and I NEVER would let them anywhere near the street. I think 99% of parents feel the same way.
Suicide by the father would just compound the idiocy. Suicide is taught to be the unforgiveable sin. If you are in the position of Samson and can save your people and destroy your and their enemies THEN it is apparently Biblical.
But this father’s suicide would serve only the devil.Better he should spend his life productively
Here in the formerly farming area a number of children have died needlessly and even horrifically because generally good parents forgot just how dangerous powered machinery or large animals can be.
Wrong. While it my have been just a momentary whim of the driver to steerinto the leaves just to see thm scatter it was totally irresponsible of the father to not just allow but encourage the girls to play in the street and compounded by the girls not even being visible. Plus he wasn’t even there to watch for traffic and give warning. Total failure to consider likely possibilities.
Sure it was stupid of the driver to drive through a leaf pile not knowing if some idiot after hidden books or rocks to damage a car for kicks.
I am no fan of illegal immigrants but this case is about stupidity not deliberate intent to harm.Without the stupidity of the father failing to see the children didn’t play in the street there would be no story.
I hate my phone auto correcting my typing and substituting the wrong words.
