A lot of the Jewish immigrants in the 20s and 30s were Socialists. They came from irreligious parents back in Europe who substituted "culture" for Judaism. We see what happened to a lot of them. Their "culture" did not save them from the ravages of the Nazis. I'm sure they were incensed for being thought of in the same vein as the religious Jews. "But, I'm one of YOU! I know Goethe, Wagner! I'm not like those dirty bearded religious Jews over there!"

Bang. Slump.

To the Nazis, they were.

This kind of irreligious Jew who immigrated to the U.S. had already been indoctrinated on how "outmoded" Judaism was by their Socialist parents and how much more important it was to be "cultured". So they were only too glad to shuck their whole heritage when they came to the U.S. You can hardly expect such people to have an allegiance to Israel. They were, and their descendents are, rabidly eager to fit in and be considered Americans first and last. They are appalled by their more religious brethren. And they are, unfortunately, sometimes the worst anti-Semites around today. We call them "self-hating Jews" or "court Jews". They are very devoted to pleasing their ruling authority masters, even if it puts their fellow Jews in jeopardy. This has been played out for millenia. I guess there are quislings in every generation. None will be praised in future generations.
