A DOJ Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) "special report" shows that "firearm-related" homicides fell by 39 percent between 1993 and 2011.

It also showed that violent crime--or "nonfatal firearm-related violent victimization against persons aged 12 or older"--declined by 70% over the same time period.

The BJS report was released in May 2013, but was under-reported amid the push for new gun control laws. The information in it is detrimental to many of the gun control arguments which were being propounded at the time.

Down because criminals know more people are armed nowadays and are not going to “take it” anymore?

Hmmm.....

Look for the Brady Center to spin this as “Our policies are working, but we still need to pass more laws. Won’t you please help with a generous donation now?”.

Kinda weird that you can’t comment or contact them unless you pony up some bucks. Probably the same for MAIGgots, whining mommies, whining former representatives with x ass-tronaut husbands.

When did the push for state-by-state concealed carry get underway?

Their fall-back strategy will involve disparate impact on persons belonging to certain racial groups.

Gee...just about the time that most of the Southern states started to enact or considering enacting Concealed Carry laws for handguns. Here in Arkansas, was 1994 IIRC.

Wow, great! Now the Democracts will declare the “gun violence emergency” to be over and stop working day and night to disarm us.

And yet, the number of guns in the hand of citizens has increased dramatically over that same period of time.

Why that’s downright counterintuitive...

...IF your intuitions lean towards the idiotic and/or the illogical.

Focusing on “gun related” crime is not a good idea. It is the total crime rates and homicide rates that are important.

If the overall homicide rate dropped, but the gun homicide rate rose, that would still be a good thing.

I downloaded the report but haven’t gone through it yet so I can’t say if addresses rocks, knives, baseball bats, hockey sticks (not michael mann either), frying pans, poison or any number of other weapons/methods. Seems the only qualifier that appears is involving “gun” violence. We know the reason. Mislead and instill fear of inanimate objects. Probably fails to mention the huge increase in firearms ownership during the same time frame. Maybe it doesn’t do any sort of comparison at all relative to the amount of firearms available vs. homicides committed. Good data for fighting the anti’s next go around in any case.
