Christie Abandoned by Conservatives
Breitbart ^ | 2 Feb 2014 | Tony Lee

Posted on 02/03/2014 9:41:07 AM PST by SoConPubbie

Responding to embattled Republican New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's scandals concerning "Bridgegate" and Hurricane Sandy Relief funds, conservatives have been more anti-mainstream mediaanti-President Barack Obama, and anti-Hillary Clinton than pro-Christie.

Their support, though, has been far from enthusiastic, showing how difficult it will be for Christie to not only win the Republican presidential nomination if he becomes a candidate but to win in the general election if he gets the nomination.

The mainstream media--and his friends at MSNBC--have turned on Christie, and conservatives have again defended an establishment Republican more than the establishment has ever defended them. Conservatives have pointed out that Christie has taken more accountability than Obama and Hillary Clinton have on Benghazi and how the mainstream media have scrutinized the "Bridgegate" scandal far more than Benghazi, which was a much more significant scandal in which a U.S. Ambassador was murdered.

But they have not defended him as fiercely as they would someone like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) or former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Conservatives relentlessly and ferociously defended Cruz, for instance, when he was attacked as a McCarthyite and when a former roommate who is a liberal Hollywood screenwriter with an ax to grind trashed him in the mainstream press. And Palin, who is still the most liked person among Republican presidential primary voters, has arguably the fiercest supporters in politics that make thin-skinned "lamestream media" reporters want to shut off their email boxes and Twitter accounts once her supporters feel that she has been wronged or unfairly treated by the press.

Republican establishment politicians are infamous for abandoning conservatives after they ask them to dance. Christie, though, has never even courted the Tea Party movement and the conservative base, having spent the better part of the last four years kissing up to the mainstream media

Pay attention to the media reaction. They are using this story to put down the ENTIRE party: Eg: not backing him up + a ‘Republican” who can win. Ask Juan Williams. The fat boy got himself into this mess. It’s on him.

I don’t know that he was ever backed by conservatives. So being abandoned is moot.

Any Republican is the frog while the media is always the scorpion.

Where Christie is concerned, I couldn't care less.

For that matter, for any GOP-E type, I couldn't care less if the media takes them out.

More power to them.

Conservatism is an ideology held by conservatives. It’s solely based on the US constitution and the traditions of Western culture. It’s impossible for conservatives to abandon anyone or anything. Christie is not a conservative. If a conservative ever supported him, it was because he was a conservative. If Christie no longer has the support of conservatives, it’s because he abandoned conservatism. Anyone who supports a liberal, is by definition not a conservative.

Christie was never supported by conservatives. When Kristy Kreme won the pubbie primary all the FReepers who knew him decried him as an anti-2A, pro-abortion Rino. At best conservatives were pleasantly surprised with Christie’s fiscal programs and willingness to go toe to toe with union toadies. Now he has proven to be everything the NJ FReepers said he would be and worse.

I’ve never seen any real evidence that Christie is conservative. He is only a bit to the right of the average liberal.

If you don’t want to be abandoned by somebody, you have to avoid abandoning them in the first place.

Crispy has been invited to speak at CPAC. For what reason I have no idea. He may be conservative for NJ but not where I come from.

Other than a few RINOs on the Hill, there weren’t any conservatives who supported him.

My thought exactly! When did conservatives EVER embrace him in the first place?

Christie was never a conservative. He abandoned conservatives and conservatives have written Gov. ‘Krispy Kreme’ off as another pompous, backstabbing RINO. Bye, bye, Chrissy.
