Are they trying to make cars too expensive for the middle class to own? It seems the cost of even base model new cars and trucks is skyrocketing.

Cars will be used as sensor platforms to spy on passengers and....other cars.

“Dave, you are approaching the mandated travel limit statute. You are not to travel more than 50 miles from your designated domicile per the Greenhouse Gas Act”.

“Override that, HAL.”

“I’m sorry, Dave. I can not do that.”

RiiiiiiP!

"Good morning Doctor Chandra, I am ready for my first lesson."

I see a huge black market in transponder spoofers to placate the officials, and older vehicles with no computer controls...if we can only keep the EPA from legislating away compatible fuels.

The only car that will be paying attention to what your car is saying is the the nearby cop car. That’s what this is all about.

My first thought as well. Would anyone like to take bets against them having the ability to 'squawk' on command, to transmit the last few hours worth of driving information in a compressed stream?

This entire concept is really, really, really bad.

If these could be switched on during fog driving to prevent the idiots from stopping their cars while driving in fog I’m for it.

I realize your comment was probably mostly tounge in cheek, but I'm amazed at how easily people rationalize acceptance of the police state.

I don't care if this system were able to successfully prevent every single accident that might otherwise have occurred. It's still a bad freaking idea.

Indeed. The listening devices installed in every car (for our safety of course), will transmit the last couple of hours of conversation as they pass the nearest NSA roadside listening post.

What's really funny, is that there was a time when people on FR would think I was joking about that. I'm not. It really is nice having people finally catching up to those of us who have been paying attention for a long time..

That woman on the GPS has never been right on any trip I have taken, as far as taking the most expedient route...I just shut her off.

I took a trip with two people last summer, and one insisted on that GPS...let me say it took hours longer than expected, we missed a turn, and never again.

I’d rather have a map. I have traveled all over this country without a GPS, rarely have I been lost, and I have been able to find almost anything I wanted without that gadget. Or that ‘turn here’ cyber woman barking commands.

I like peace and quiet while traveling or nice music, so talking cars, chatty Kathy’s on cell phones, and that GPS lady are not welcome in my car! To me it is the journey as much as the destination...

An obama administration talking car will babble endlessly on subjects it has no understanding of and will steadfastly refuse to listen to anyone that disagrees with it.

I would bury or burn any of my old bucket vehicles before I would let them be confiscated to be crushed or wind up in the private and exempt collection of one of the criminal political class.
