“Food assistance creates a healthier environment and helps many families climb out of poverty.”
No it doesn’t and welfare helps no one climb out of poverty, at least the way it is implemented. If you had a system where people had to work for their benefits, it would be different...
This is all baloney. Typical Dem tactic — manufacture a “crisis” or create a “wrong,” then create or expand a government program to fix the phony problem.
Pardon me for being blunt. They've been trying to "climb out of poverty" for years. Few have made it.
This has nothing to do with the government teat. It has to do with self sense of worth, personal initiative, drive, and busting ass to get it done. It has been my observation that people who have these qualities have no need for food stamps, section 8 housing, FI, SSI, etc.
For more information, check out the story in the NY Post:
I live just outside Louisville ,Ky So I get all of the local television channels on my cable and every day I see commercials from a grocery store named First Link Discount Foods in every ad they say spend $50 in groceries and get back $5 in cash even with Food Stamp purchases. I have been seeing that commercial for two or three years now. They are located downtown just across from Gubmint housing projects and rake in the food stamps.
There are so many disincentives to get off of food stamps; that magic $19,100 income level (or there abouts) means almost full benefits up to that limit, and absolutely none right beyond it. Add to that the cash bonanza of the Earned Income Tax Credit, and all our ‘helping’ the poor is locking them into being poor.

"However, risky behaviors can ensue when a person is denied benefits due to past incarceration".
Who wants to bet that the author has a degree in "black studies" or "lesbian dance theory " or some such from a "prestigious" univ.?
Maybe if they starve to death they won’t be able to play the knock out game or murder 51 year old women.
I say cut em off at least the ones who like like O.
So here’s what’s happening-A young black couple are shacking up with children. Both get foodstamps plus welfare. The guy sells the foodstamps.
Sadly I know people doing this.
I can’t feel that sad that single people are making babies knowing they get foodstamps.
Oh but they have flat screen tvs, cable and go to the hair & nail salon on a regular basis.
It seems there are more families climbing into poverty right now than families climbing out of it. Feeding all of them forever is an unrealistic goal. A better solution is to get out of the Obamaconomy, and our national failure.
after obammy and holders racism,
I frankly don’t give a damn what happens to negros any more.
To hell with em.
Cry me a river. If they don’t work, then starve.
I am out of sympathy for these people. A freeper posted a table citing the cash equivalent of welfare benefits by state. In Maryland the cash equivalent is $60k a year. And that is without gaming the system or doing any work.
“bans for convicted felons.”
That has to be deliberate...Some felons may have done no real violent harm, maybe even got over charged in a white collar, drug possession, or EPA type crime. What a way to isolate them, and starve them to death!
Many of the white woman on food stamps are the same way... bigotry much do you?
I know of one person that went to a food bank and got free groceries. He had to report the free stuff to the Government and they considered the free stuff as income. They raised his rent to $6 a month and he’s bitching. He had free rent before.
