Stockman, in NY for another Bitcoin event, skips more votes in House

WASHINGTON — Rep. Steve Stockman missed two more House votes on Monday night, apparently to attend a bitcoin promotion event in New York City.

The Clear Lake Republican has been a vocal advocate of the digital currency and was among the first federal candidates to invite donations by bitcoin, just before New Years. A campaign finance report that covers the period through Dec. 31 showed no such donations yet.

Bitcoin Center NYC, an organization that promotes adoption of the “cryptocurrency,” announced that Stockman would be a guest of honor at a bitcoin auction Monday night at its headquarters in the Manhattan Financial District. Stockman also attended a New Year’s Eve party the group held to launch its operations, hours after announcing that he would support pro-bitcoin legislation.

Thanks for verification of what I suspected. I’m going to send Stockman a nice little donation. ;)

Here in Texas it looks like Stockman does not support Stockman for Senate.

Anyone see ANY Stockman yard sign, bumper sticker, campaign appearance, TV ad or hear any radio ad? NO, we have to use our imagination! March 4 is now 28 days away.

Had much hope for this guy to save us from more Cornyn, it appears he ain’t interested.

Maybe he’s done his research, and figures the job doesn’t mean much.

He’s been strange lately. I wished he’d be quiet about it until he thinks he has a case.

Same with Arpaio’s crew. Gather the case, then drop it like a bomb on the Press.

Bitcoin is a scam, is not backed by anything and can disappear into the ethernet in one keystroke. I have lost all respect for Stockman.

I like Stockman, glad he is on board and out in front, he’s a smart individual and very bold when it comes to the preservation of our Constituion, we need congress who will attempt to protect the freedoms Bitcoin represents from Fed regulation.

I’ve read a number of explanations regarding the Bitcoin concept and how it is supposed to work, but I have to admit, the whole thing still totally confuses me. From what I’ve read, Bitcoins are obtained by some type of “mining” process which involves the solving of mathematical problems in order to produce Bitcoins, and that there is a finite number of Bitcoins available to be “mined.” I just can’t get a handle on this (and I can’t be the only one out there who feels this way!) I fail to understand what the adavantages would be for someone to conduct business using the Bitcoin, versus some other established form of currency.

“He’s been strange lately.” Lately? Trying to smuggle valiums in his tighty-whities when reporting to jail is strange and stupid. Neither of which are on my Senator Wish List.

Guess our best hope is that Stovall or another “decent” conservative gets a good start for 2022.

From the bottom of the article...

The first vote he missed on Monday night was on a bill involving preparedness for chemical or biological attack; that passed with only 2 no votes. The second vote came on a bill to ensure in-state tuition for veterans attending college; that passed unanimously, with Stockman and 40 other House members absent.

Being there would have made zero difference.

Thanks for the link! I've read through a couple of the narratives, and it does answer some of my questions. The light is slowing coming on. I still have a lot more reading to do on this subject, however.

I mine Litecoins which are usually thought of as Bitcoin's little brother. Bitcoin mining has sort of gotten out of reach for the home user, but Litecoins (as well as others) can be mined and exchanged for bitcoins or cash.

I knew as much as you a month ago, but these links were keys I used to try to get a better understanding and even get a little mining rig going. To mine, it really boils down to how much you can afford or already own in higher-end ATI Radeon graphics cards. If you have one or two of them laying around (ie you're a hard core gamer) or if you can bring yourself to purchase one or two, you can mine as well.

Here are some more links I posted on an earlier thread:

Graphic card hardware comparison the higher the kH/s the more coins you can mine.
BTC-E Exchange one of the many places you can buy and sell litecoins (LTC) and others.
Coinotron one of many "mining pools" you can join to earn litecoins.
Homemade Rig Example Instructions for building a rig. However, I don't really like how he jams the thing into a milk crate. However, I looked at the page for examples of different hardware that can me used.
Litecoin 101 Forbes article.
bfgminer example of software you can use for mining. Lots of switches and settings to figure out, but once you get the right script in there, it basically runs on its own.

I still have a lot to learn, but you can FReepmail me if you want to know more specifics.
