More Americans would blame Republicans in Congress than President Barack Obama if the nation's debt ceiling is not raised, according to a new national poll.

The release of the CNN/ORC International survey on Monday came as Treasury Secretary Jack Lew issued yet another public warning to Congress to act quickly to extend the nation's borrowing authority.

Fifty-four percent of those questioned say they would blame the GOP in Congress if the debt ceiling isn't raised, with 29% saying they'd hold the President more responsible.

Twelve percent say they'd point fingers at both sides. The numbers are little changed from last fall, when Republicans took more of the blame for a partial federal government shutdown sparked by a push to defund the new healthcare law.

According to the poll, Democrats would overwhelmingly blame Republicans in Congress, with independents, by a 49%-30% margin, blaming the GOP in Congress. Republicans, by a 55%-29% margin, say the President would be more responsible.

Blame?

I would proudly vote not to raise the debt ceiling.

Blame it on me!

Tie raising the debt ceiling to eliminating the bonuses for the IRS.

The Republicans will get blamed for everything no matter what the issue is. Remember when W got blamed for the debt at 10 trillion dollars? I’ve never heard them blame hussein for the 17 trillion we have now.

This is the same polling UNIT that also asserted 76% of America had a favorable impression of the Clown’s State of the Coup address.

The Low Info Voters just want their checks! $17 trillion is just an alien concept. God knows they don’t have to pay it back. Let the rich people pay it back! There!

Keep the money flowing and we’ll keep voting Democrat! Its a beautiful thing!

I can remember when going deeper into debt was a bad thing... It truly has become an Orwelian country.

So.. no matter how intransigent the dems are about cutting spending, the GOP gets the blame.

Americans have lost serious amounts of IQ points over the years.

Of course, the mainstream media and the Democrats position the issue in a way that ignores the root problem: Runaway, unfunded spending.

Fix the spending problem and the debt ceiling issue goes away.

" ..the GOP gets the blame."

If the GOP were at all capable of messaging, they'd be taking the credit.

If the pubbies had a spine, which they don’t, or at best haven’t found, they should jump out front and say not only no but hell no. Then go on to explain our current condition as to why followed by a solution. Cut cut cut.
Job killin EPA....GONE. States each already have their own. Dept of Ed......GONE. States each already have their own.

This is exactly the kind of MSM psyops article that gets the weak and feckless Republican leadership to cave in to Democrat demands every time.

What the hell is the difference with debt ceiling raised or the Fed Reserve cooking the books. Raped either way so Americans don’t give a damn.
