The National Security Agency "probably" collects phone records of members of Congress and their staffs, a senior Justice Department official conceded Tuesday.

Deputy Attorney General James Cole buckled under questioning from multiple lawmakers during a House Judiciary Committee hearing reviewing proposals to reform the NSA's surveillance activity.

must be legit ... I found it on Face Book...

This could become scary. Face Book is legit? I talked with son-in-law about Face Book. Son-In-Law installs security systems. He mentioned a room ... a large, very large room where the servers were and said ... "It looked legit."

[ Is this one of the reasons the GOP is so weak-kneed? ]

That and probably a LOT of RINOs in the senate and house are so deep in the closet they are finding last years Christmas presents.

This makes them controllable / blackmail-able...

The blackmail that goes with the spying probably has something to do with turning good Congressmen into big government socialist flacks.

No one is clean enough. No one at all. An actual indiscretion is not required. The recalcitrant Congressman can be charged with wearing the wrong color tie on his 14th birthday. The mighty indignation of the MSM and the Left will make the scandal to be whether he did it or not. IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT THE CHARGE IS, only whether the target denies it or confirms it or says he doesn’t remember. All that will be seen and heard is that he was charged with something heinous- it must be bad because all the MSM is so upset about it- and any reaction at all is taken by the MSM as confirming the “charge.” If he says he doesn’t remember then witnesses will be trotted out to say they say him in the wrong color tie and before you know it the disgraced Congressman takes an early retirement.

it might even explain our weak-kneed CJ/SCOTUS.

That occurred to me as soon as I heard he had caved.

Then there is another verse (I’ll paraphrase) where even Angels fear to tread.

The enemies list is collect across all Americans, so you don’t need to be an enemy now. They’ll catch you later, dude.

This is terrible. No politician worth his salt would be able to resist using this against opponents/threats.

There’s no probably about it. The lesson of Hoover is that the most important people for your information gathering organization to have information on is the ones that can end your organization. If the NSA (and FBI, and CIA) wasn’t spying on Congress they’re idiots.
