New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio will not be marching in the nations largest St. Patricks Day parade, deciding to skip one of his citys signature celebrations because the event organizers refuse to let participants carry pro-gay signs.
De Blasio will become the first mayor in decades to sit out the traditional march along Fifth Avenue.
I will be participating in a number of other events to honor the Irish heritage of this city, said de Blasio on Tuesday during an unrelated press conference at City Hall. But I simply disagree with the organizers of that parade.

I agree but that is the goal of the homosexuals. They want the parade destroyed.
“family” in this case means children. I don’t care what family they have.
Sorry, I will never see sexual displays, including words on signs, as OK to show around children, even if not “directed at them”. Being public, this is by nature open to children.
This is why I despise homos. The very fact they even touch on their own “subject matter” brings up the whole subject of sex, any sex, and that is just inappropriate until the child is quite elder.

Sure; it is a remnant of our Western Civilization/Judeo-Christian roots. The problem was the parade wasn;t going to be destroyed; it would simply move to the areas where the white fled when NYC fell. These areas (counties northwest of the city and along the Jersey shore) schedule their parades around the NYC parade; they’d simply adjust them again (closer to St. Patrick’s Day) because the bands would be available.
They screamed for so long, we just want to be like everybody else. Please. The next thing you know, it’s the Folsom Street Fair a la San Fran... look it up re: images. And who cares if your kids have to see it. /s
It’s about St. Patrick and Irish Pride, not who you have sex with
Did they try it re: Muslim Day Parade yet? Thought not. All that gay oppression and murder... crickets. That would be a protest.
My husband is a retired NYC Sanitation worker. He belonged to the Emerald Society his whole time there even though he’s more Greek than Irish.
Every year he marched in the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Rockaway Beach, Queens. It was scheduled around the NYC one so anyone who wanted to could attend both.
The guys would rent out the upstairs of a great restaurant/bar along the route. Everyone’s family would come, watch the parade and then chow down on corned beef, cabbage, really good Irish Soda Bread and beer of course.
It’s a fun parade, family friendly and not such a madhouse as Manhattan.
The NYC parade got a real black eye when someone was killed in a brawl afterwards years ago; at that point I think a lot of people started considering alternatives.
