A citrus industry group estimates a week of freezing temperatures in early December cost California’s $2 billion citrus industry about $441 million.
California Citrus Mutual released its estimate on Monday. It says the damage was confined to the state’s Central Valley, where mandarin, navel and lemon crops were lost during seven consecutive nights of freezing temperatures in early December

Thank goodness they didn’t die from the heat of global warming! That would have been way worse.
Well those oranges and lemons can either die of thirst or freeze to death — if one don’t get them the other will and did — and that doesn’t even take into account the citrus holocausts, when they load them on trucks and haul them into the desert and dump them.
From about age 7 until 18 I lived across the street from first a lemon orchard, then orange orchard.
They used smudge pots, to deal with frosts, which don’t have to go down to 32 F.
We got into very big trouble with our parents for tipping those smudge pots over.
Now I think they use other methods, like misting and fans.
Suck it, California.
