Exclusive: Leader of Far-Right Ukrainian Militant Group Talks Revolution With TIME (Photos)
Time ^

In his interview with TIME, Yarosh, whose militant brand of nationalism rejects all foreign influence over Ukrainian affairs, revealed for the first time that Pravy Sektor has amassed a lethal arsenal of weapons. He declined to say exactly how many guns they have. “It is enough,” he says, “to defend all of Ukraine from the internal occupiers” — by which he means the ruling government — and to carry on the revolution if negotiations with that government break down.

But so far, those negotiations have been making significant strides toward resolving the crisis. On Tuesday, the parliament began debating a sweeping reform of the constitution, while allies of President Viktor Yanukovych suggested for the first time that he is ready to consider early elections. Both moves would mark a major breakthrough. But Yarosh, watching from the sidelines, has begun to doubt whether the negotiators have the interests of his men at heart. “This whole peaceful song and dance, the standing around, the negotiations, none of it has brought real change.” Dozens of his men, he says, remain behind bars after their street battles against police two weeks ago.

With that in mind, Yarosh and another militant faction began a parallel set of negotiations over the weekend. On Monday, they claimed to be in direct talks with Ukraine’s police forces to secure the release of jailed protesters, including members of Pravy Sektor. Mainstream opposition leaders said they had not authorized any such talks. At the same time, Yarosh has demanded a seat at the negotiating table with the President. Once again, he was flatly denied. His ideology, it seems, is just too toxic to let him in the room.

They were there from the very start.
Ukraine is divided, and that will not stop.
Pro-govt. part of country is forming “Protection squads” e.i. militia.

Too bad the article doesn’t mention the other 99% of the protest movement.

Other than that, nothing more than a pro-Russian smear job to discredit the revolt. Forgot to add Soros

You are aware of the fact that those “activists” that are burning down the city would be ass-kicked by the police in every Western nation?

I didn’t find this particular article to be pro-Sov...er, Russian. Certainly better than some of the other crap one sees around here.

I doubt any Western police force could kick the asses of 50-100k people in one square alone.

I admit, I only read the heading “Far right militants” but that label told me enough where the story is heading.

It’s assumed to be pro-Russian by default, because that is the group trying discredit the Ukrainian protest the most. Their story is not about the abuses of office by Yanukovich, his golden toilet or his dentist son who became a billionaire, or that this has become a popular revolt affecting half of the country, their story is about a group of “right wing extremists”

You need to look again. Those aren’t young punks protesting. Many appear to be vets. And they are all armed with something or other. Many just have fighting sticks or baseball bats but I’ve never seen so many pitchforks and long axes. That’s been enough to keep most of the police somewhat polite——rather than getting their head axed, for example. They also have firearms which they haven’t brought out yet. But if Yano- doesn’t get his head right soon he may get it left——on a post.

Sounds like Canada- G-20 in Toronto, threat of jail for Free Dominion, guns grabbed by the RCMP in High River etc. etc. etc.

Lol...it's an interview with the leader of 'Right Sector', are you suggesting he is a Russian plant?

I’m suggesting if someone wanted to discredit Conservatism or Republicans, he wouldn’t do an in-depth survey outlining conservative values. He would do a sexy story where a character, probably a southerner, is ranting about “the Jews and nig***s”, and then call it the face of Conservatism.

No, the ones who like to say that “far right” represent half of a country are Russian plants.

Bandera fought the Soviet occupiers of the Ukraine with a tremendous amount of bravery and skill. The OUN was not far-right per se. There was another anti-Soviet group similar to the OUN that also waged guerrilla warfare against the Reds.

The history of the Ukraine is very complex and not widely known. I’m hoping that a Ukraine specialist will join this site if he is available.
