In Sochi, Russia, Don’t Touch The Water

We all know how the old saying goes when you travel: “Don’t drink the water.” Well in Sochi, Russia, you had better not TOUCH the water, either.
When Chicago Tribune reporter Stacy St. Clair, who is covering the Winter Olympics for the newspaper, arrived at her hotel, she was informed that there was a problem with the water and it had been shut off.
Then hotel staff delivered an ominous warning: “Do not use on your face because it contains something very dangerous.”

Chicago Tribune is a modern Pravda.
Back to 1970s Soviet reporters were crawling around ghettos, filming crack houses and interviewing homeless drunks.
You can imagine how the United States were looking in the eyes of East bloc populace.
It seems like the roles reverted now.

When I travel to Ukraine, I will shower in the water at my hotel in the boonies, but I won’t ingest the water. My impression is that the hotel was built for apparactniks when they visited that part of the country. The hot water typically is rusty in color until I run enough to clear the pipes.
