Time hasnt dimmed liberty set afire in Boston Harbor
The famous Boston Tea Party involved disgruntled colonists who felt unfairly treated by the British Motherland, which was imposing an ever-increasing burden of taxation with little or no input from those being taxed.
The British reasoned that they were offering protection to the colonies and, therefore, the taxes were justified.
Because the British Empire was almost continuously expanding and engaging in warfare, a great deal of revenue was required. There appeared to be enormous natural resources and the capacity to develop them in the New World, and the monarch thought these could provide an endless source of revenue.
There was no consideration of the fact that the colonists worked hard to sustain themselves and also wanted to accumulate enough wealth to provide for their later years and for their families.
Interestingly, the much-maligned Tea Party of today faces the same concerns as the brave pioneers of old. They are also concerned about government overreach with programs such as Obamacare, unnecessary and unlawful surveillance of citizens, blatant and unchecked abuse by the Internal Revenue Service, and government cover-ups and media complicity.
Neither did the Boston Tea Partys participants, nor supporters of the modern Tea Party object to paying their fair share of taxes, but both witnessed an incessant escalation of government spending, which was always taken out of their hides.
The concept of cutting back on government expenditures was as foreign to the British as it is to our government today, which provides lip service but no meaningful action.
Why do so many members of the political class go to such great lengths to demonize the Tea Party?

It isn’t just taxation that has us pissed off. Onerous regulation, disregard for innocent human life (abortion), massive corruption, and gross incompetence are all characteristic of the new King George and his swarm of officers who eat out our substance.
Great article, thanks!
Amen...Loss of control is what big government cronies fear most.
“As we approach the national elections of 2014 and 2016, the Tea Party and all other groups who respect the Constitution and our Judeo-Christian heritage should put aside minor differences and issues that can be addressed later and present a united front of common sense to combat forces that wish to fundamentally change America.”
If you won’t support the lesser of two evils you will have to endure life under the greater evil.
Great article.
Has anyone else read Carson’s “America the Beautiful”?
I’m having trouble getting through it. And I have been a very enthusiastic supporter of Ben Carson. Is it me or is the book just written that bad?
I read it - but thought it was great.
Much of his reasoning is related to the scriptures, and it is full of footnotes.
I enjoyed it.
I want to love it. But I am only half way through and forcing my way to finish it. He seems to lend credence to every socialist opposing view with an "understanding" about why liberals think that way. For instance, he offers explanations about what's bad about capitalism and the corporate greed it spurs. He explains the good parts of socialism.... So far, he repeatedly ties things back to his poor childhood, hard working mother and ambition to succeed through education. That's nice, I get it, but it was covered in the early chapters of the book. He established his creds. The book jumps around and the sequence of topics has starts and fits. It seems very simplistic to me. Maybe I'm over critical.
I told my wife that I get the idea that I may not have been the "target audience" for this book. If I had to guess, I'd assume that his intended audience was "poor black liberals".
Maybe it will get better. I could finish the 2nd half in one sitting. I really like Carson. And I really want to recommend this book to others. Maybe my expectations are too high. I'll keep reading.
Dr. Carson is saying TEA Party groups and conservatives should put aside minor policy differences and join, NOT swallow the GOP RINO compromise candidate offered election after election.
Excellent read. Thanks for the post. BTTT.
no... He is saying we must stop liberals from advancing their agenda. If you reduce the number of liberals in congress than you eliminate the need to compromise with liberals.
HE IS SAYING WE CANNOT ADVANCE A CONSERVATIVE AGENDA IF NUMB-SKULLS STAY HOME BECAUSE THEY QUESTION THE PURITY OF A CANDIDATE’S CONSERVATISM AND A RADICAL LIBERAL IS ELECTED INSTEAD.
