Jerry Seinfeld's attack on politically correct comedy quotas drew a scathing response from a black comedienne who confesses she's never watched an entire episode of the comic's landmark sitcom.
Nicole Byer, whose credits include work on MTV and with the comedy troupe Upright Citizens Brigade, took offense at Seinfeld's response to a question asking why more people of color don't appear on his online series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.
People think it’s the census or something,” he said. “This has gotta represent the actual pie chart of America? Who cares? Funny is the world that I live in. You’re funny, I’m interested. You’re not funny, I’m not interested. I have no interest in gender or race or anything like that..It’s more about PC nonsense than ‘Are you making us laugh or not?

Clearly she failed to understand exactly what Mr. Seinfeld stated despite the fact that it was elementary. He wasn't talking about ethnicity or nationality at all. Jerry Seinfeld simply stated that if you're funny, great! If you're not, well....that's not so great. Jerry Seinfeld was saying that political correctness doesn't belong in comedy because comedy shouldn't be censored based on a small group of people who wish to impose their political ideology on free speech.
I would suggest Ms. Byer watch the documentary, Comedian. This Seinfeld documentary features Jerry actually hanging out with some of his friends, which includes Bill Cosby, Chris Rock, and Mario Joyner, as well as routines by Godfrey, and Richard Pryor.
Take off the race bait glasses, Ms. Byer. It's clouding your judgement. Before you decide to start the "Racist" diatribe simply because I disagree with your ignorance, I'll mention that I am a "minority", as our social engineers, talking heads, and politicians would say.

The essence of comedy is to be politically incorrect and say the things that people are thinking.

I disagree. Comedy is comedy. You’re either finding humor through observation or you’re telling funny stories. Political correctness has absolutely nothing to do with it. If the “essence” is to be politically incorrect, you’re being politically correct by trying to be incorrect.

Reminds me of the outcry over the word “niggardly” a few years ago because it SOUNDED like a racist word for blacks.

All she had to do was say something controversial combined with a real big celebrity, and, VOILA! people will talk about her...and she doesn’t care what it is they’re saying. Goal: people talking about her. Achieved.

Sounds like she’s done an analysis of how she is most able to attract attention. She weighed her talent against playing the race card. I accept her analysis regarding the value of her talent.
Wow, I may be one of two people in the world who has never watched an entire episode of Seinfeld. I really haven’t watched it at all except to surf past it.
