Obama, Top Dems discuss Midterm landscape

President Obama met Monday with Majority Leader Harry Reid and leaders of the Senate Democrats' campaign arm at the White House to discuss the midterm elections, which could determine control of the upper chamber in the next Congress.

Reid was joined by Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman Michael Bennet of Colorado, and Executive Director Guy Cecil for over an hour to talk about the 2014 landscape.

Democrats are defending 21 seats this cycle, including a handful in red states where the outcomes could shift the balance of power to the GOP. Republicans need to gain six seats to take control of the chamber, which, though a tough task, would be a major blow to the president’s already rocky second term. Republicans are hoping to capitalize on the Obama’s low approval ratings along with some vulnerable Democrats’ efforts to distance themselves from him.

Why the hell does everyone keep saying that. What is so tough about taking 6 out of 21 Dem seats in this political climate? Can somebody help me out here? GEESH!!!

For the Dems, I hope that landscape looks a lot like Io.

Well, let me see... Obama will be screaming to the uninformed to get out and vote, and vote often. He will tell them how vitally important it is, and they will do what the master says. Then you have all the dead people voting, the absentee ballot mailing errors that make it so our military can't vote, and, humm, what else is there. Well I'm drawing a blank, but there are even more reasons why 6 ot of 21 could be hard. Oh, we could have candidates that were “witches” in their past, that certainly doesn't help either...

I agree completely. IMO if we were able to flip (6) seats in this climate it would be a major disappointment.

I'm of the opinion that Obamacare is going to be the gift that keeps in giving, as far as the eye can see.

I'm not looking at this thru rose colored glasses, but I'm thinking back to a post that I read on facebook.healthcaregov, oooo, couple of months ago.

Man was bemoaning the fact that in order to pay the vastly increased health insurance bill, they were going to have to axe vacations, axe Christmas clubs, axe their special happy anniversary weekend splurge and several other things.

The short way around this post is that Obamacare is going to eat up a LOT of people's disposable income - the disposable income that's supposed to jump start the economy - in order to pay for Obamacare.

And we ain't NEARLY to the end of it. we're just at the start.

I think people are going to remember that Obammycare is now their 3rd or 4th largest bill after their mortgage and car payment, when they get into that voting booth.

And the ads ... Already running here in Iowa.

Not saying the discussions were going bad but Reid was told he should look into making an employment application at the casinos

I don't think the casinos hire known crooks.

Dems have a lot of people to fool - and not much time.

My guess is they'll try to 'put off' the harsher horrors of Obamacare until after the election. Of course that's illegal but that's never stopped a democrat.

It’s tough because even knowing the D game plan, a lot of R candidates can’t win the battle.

Democrats will come up with a way to push off until the future some of the worst stuff about ObamaCare... of course that's illegal but they don't care... watch and see.
