PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Mondelēz International, who owns the old Kraft Foods plant in Northeast Philadelphia, has announced Thursday they will close in 2015.

The announcement means the loss of yet more jobs in the once-thriving snack industry (see related story).

Mondelēz says the closure of the Philadelphia bakery on Roosevelt Boulevard will affect about 350 employees, who were informed of the company’s decision earlier today.

The plant has changed hands over the years from Nabisco to Kraft, and then to the Chicago-based Mondelēz.

I’m a little fuzzy on Democrat Party economics, but wouldn’t raising the wages of the workers help here? /S

Would the Democrats now say that’s good for them?

There was an active shooter situation with two fatalities at that location in 2010. A beastie felt she had been dissed by some co-workers. Went out to her car, got a 357, came back in gunning for three people. She got two.

She got sentenced to LWOP in September 2012.

That food manufacturing plant was already obsolete and Mondelez International recently expanded two other plants along the US East Coast to take up the slack from the closing of this plant.

And mean old conservatives want to deprive children of their parents for forcing parents to work for a living.

Every time a corporate facility changes hands, it is a given that the Wall Street vultures will make all the money and add nothing of value. This game has been going on for decades and the USA at large has been the big loser while the insiders and financiers always profit.

M&A should be seriously evaluated as far as worth unless it demonstrates that it will create value and jobs for the economy. Instead it reduces competition and makes money only for the WS casino.

Wall Street once provided a capitalistic function that created capital and jobs and boosted the economy. Not really now.

It’s become inside baseball where only those in the casino club make all the money and they do it hand over fist, while the nation loses. We need some serious evaluation if we want a middle class country instead of a third world nation.

When only a few people and their cronies are making all the money while most are losing, reevaluation time is upon us.

Your post has a lot of wisdom.
If you want to explore the subject in depth, read Dave Stockman’s book The Great Deformation.
It’s depressing but harsh reality.

Reports about an improving economy are greatly exaggerated.

Nordstrom closing two metro locations, affecting hundreds of jobs (Portland-Vancouver area)

Hundreds of jobs will be affected. There are about 220 non-seasonal employees at the Lloyd Center location and 164 in Vancouver.

Story about that plant.

Back in the 90’s the plant had a cafeteria. Management came to the union asking for two people to move to the line once the retooling was done, since that when they started the retooling they took two people from the line and moved the to the cafeteria.

Anyway, the union said no. So they asked again and again the union said no. A final time and again the same answer..no.

To make a long story endless, the following Monday something changed. There was no longer a cafeteria. There were only vending machines and everyone who worked in the cafeteria was fired.

The union went ballistic. They sued management and they lost.

Would the Democrats now say that’s good for them?

Why of course! Now they can 'tuck in their children', learn to play guitar, take cooking lessons, catch up on the Kardasians. Now they are free from the oppression of a job. Life is good!
