Reminds me of a story I read out of nazi Germany.
An accountant found himself working on a crew building roads. Surely there must be some kind of mistake because Der Fuhrer couldn’t possibly find it to be acceptable. So he wrote a letter to Hitler.

Also note that Germany’s representative in Nanking, China, during the 30s wrote to the Fuhrer regarding the appalling behavior of the Japanese invaders in Nanking. Surely, Hitler would be appalled, too. Hitler, at that time building a positive political relationship with Japan, did not respond compassionately to the letter.
