The New York Times announced Thursday that operating profits had fallen 12% in the fourth quarter of 2013 compared to the same period a year before. Earnings per share dropped by roughly two-thirds, from $0.76 to $0.24. Total revenues were down 5.2% and advertising revenues were down 6.3%, with print advertising revenues falling by 7.0% and digital by 4.3% over 2013. The company added digital subscribers, up 19% in the fourth quarter of 2013 compared to same period in 2012, but its circulation revenues were down, too.

Some conservative talk show hosts have more subscribers than the NYT has.

Yes they had some good writers when we read the paper. Don’t know about that since we quit.

And yet, the Times could immediately, and nearly-instantaneously turn it all around by the simple expedient of writing honest, conservative news stories that reflected actual journalism and investigation of the failed policies of the Left. Their ideology is so important to them that they’re willing to literally die to sustain it.

It could be a status thing or it could be the fact that being an owner gives him a bully pulpit to espouse his views periodically and know that his POV will be read by millions of readers.

For something like that, it wouldn’t need to make money as long as it wasn’t costing him a lot of money.

Luckily, they have a Nobel Economics Prize winner right on staff!

Paul Krugman can explain to them that the way out of this mess is to borrow much more money and spend it frivolously.

Oh don’t worry about the Slimes’ losses. They aren’t worried because OBamma still has three years. Plenty of time left to bail them and all their Marxist crony media friends out when he nationalizes them and attaches them to PBS, expanding that budget by 3000%, all by executive order, and ‘it’s for the chilren’. He’s got a pen, donchya you know. ‘Don’t doubt me.’

Looks like they’ll have to lay off some employees to stay afloat. But hey, according to the NY times, losing your job is a good thing because now those who get laid off will have the option not to work and qualify for obamacare subsidies! How lucky can they get?

If it wasn’t for online subscriptions and digital ads to camouflage direct injections of cash from domestic and foreign groups, the NYT would probably have gone belly up.

I don’t understand. How can you go wrong with:

Paul Krugman
Thomas Friedman
Maureen Dowd

and Pinch at the helm?

I will never understand why a paper like that wouldn’t pull a “Fox news” marketing strategy. The money that could be made would be astounding for a conservative based newspaper...I’d buy a subscription. But these people won’t bail out, they will fly their craft straight into the ground praising Obama all the way. Left ideology is lunacy as the NY Times is proving every day.
