Reminds me of my stay with a Mexican family in Saltillo, Mexico in the 1960s. In an effort to be welcoming, they procured what they interpreted to be “typical” American foods for each of my daily meals. The first morning's breakfast was proudly presented by the lady of the house on a fine bone china plate: an unopened box of Wheaties. Nodding and smiling, she pointed to Bob Richards on the cover to signify its authenticity. And, a bottle of Coca-Cola. Lunch consisted of genuine Oscar Meyer bologna on white bread. And, a bottle of Coca-Cola. Dinner consisted of hotdogs with ketchup. And, a bottle of Coca-Cola. And, so it went for two weeks. I was deeply offended. By the ketchup on my hotdogs.

I wish people would stop apologizing every time one of these groups is “offended.” If I were in charge of that school, I would have told those who were “offended” to go jump.
