The Brief: George P. Calls Out "Ignorant Statements" on Hispanics
Texas Tribune ^ | 1/16/14 | John Reynolds

Posted on 02/07/2014 8:21:02 AM PST by jimbo123

Land commissioner candidate George P. Bush has some pointed words for fellow Republicans who denigrate Hispanics.

“If we're going to be successful and be considered credible in the Hispanic community, we’ve got to denounce some of the ignorant statements that are made about Hispanics and the contributions we make," he told the Tribune's Alexa Ura. His comments come on the heels of a controversial statement on the Denton County Republican Party's website that referred to the expected Democratic top of the ticket as “Abortion Barbie with Hispanic Sen. Leticia Van de Putte as her running mate.”

I agree.

At the same time, George P stay way way away from amnesty.

There is a good way to deal with hispanics, but not by giving away everything.

I do agree we need to watch the level of discourse.

That said, I like him so far.

Who's making 'ignorant statements' about hispanics?

No one.

Perhaps George meant 'illegal aliens'.

So, maybe he can name one 'ignorant statement' any named person has made about illegal aliens.

I'm growing to despise the Bush family.

“Hispanic Sen. Leticia Van de Putte”

How is that denigrating Hispanics? Granted, they should have just said Abortion Barbie, but calling someone Hispanic is not denigrating them.

Interesting that he has chosen to be a member of an “oppressed semi-race” rather than soaking up his white privilege.

Seems kind of odd to me that so many mixed race people choose the oppressed part. Its almost like there is some kind of advantage there.

You’re not getting the Bush-speak. “Opposing amnesty for illegals” = “ignorant statements about Hispanics”. That’s what W meant, that’s what Jeb means and that’s what Geo. P. means.

Ignorant statements or the truth?

Could we have some examples of such “ignorant” statements?

If they’re false, they they should be very very easy to disprove.

There’s no reason to use Hispanic there.

Really? screw that.

How about we get rid of the Hispanic Caucus and groups like LaRaza? Then lets talk about ‘hispanics’

Perhaps it is meant to support he part of themselves that is seen as not being American. In truth they can and have a responsibility to learn and speak the English language. MO

In the earlier settling of immigrants, (all nations) it was their desire to speak English and understand it as they truly desired to be Americans and all the opportunity that comes with it.

I do agree we need to watch the level of discourse.

And what does that mean?

You'll notice that George P. didn't give any examples or clearly define what he meant, he just threw an open-ended statement out there with no clarification whatsoever.

So what do you mean by that statement of yours?

How does FreeRepublic need to "watch the level of discourse"?
