Chris Christie's Loss is [Someone's] Gain: We asked leading conservatives to fill in the blanks
Politico Magazine ^ | February 7, 2014 | Staff

Posted on 02/07/2014 3:08:43 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

The fallout from the George Washington Bridge traffic debacle has opened the door for what might be the largest serious Republican presidential field in two decades. And that door is wide, wide open.

Politico Magazine asked some of the smartest and most experienced Republican operatives, pundits and even a former presidential candidate to weigh in on the suddenly unsettled field of 2016 GOP presidential aspirants. Three months ago, this conversation would have sounded like the Republican version of the Hillary chatter we’re hearing on the left today. Most of us would simply have cast Chris Christie as the inevitable nominee-in-waiting. No one can make that argument now, and the continued sell-off of Christie’s political stock has unlocked his formerly rock-solid donor base. It clearly tempts significant players to “buy the lottery ticket,” as Grover Norquist puts it.

If you ask me, Christie is almost dead but too stubborn to lie down. But not all of my Republican colleagues agree. Some of these folks are still Christie fans; some see potential in other favorites like former Florida governor Jeb Bush, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, to name a few—and weigh their various strengths, weaknesses and selling propositions. Also making the list are former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan—all with previous experience on the national stage, though with obviously mixed results. Veep wannabe Sarah Palin and MSNBC host Joe Scarborough will get a kick out of being on the list, but almost certainly won’t pull on the snow boots for a trip to Iowa or New Hampshire.

The candidates who do suit up for 2016 will face a faster, wilder primary than before....

Interesting.

I would say that the person has yet to appear, but I’ll be hanged if I can figure out where he’ll come from and I wish he’d hurry.

I can't imagine it not being Ted Cruz if he decides to run. I mean really -- outside of Sarah Palin -- who would make a better candidate against Hillary or any other Democrat?

“Politico Magazine asked some of the smartest and most experienced Republican operatives, pundits and even a former presidential candidate to weigh in on the suddenly unsettled field of 2016 GOP presidential aspirants.”

Three strikes right off the bat. Republican operative, pundit and former Presidential candidate means RINO. Rand Paul, supporting McConnel is dead to me.

All I have right now is Cruz, Palin and Lee. I like Allen West, however one time I also liked Colin Powell and Condi Rice. Maybe Susan Martinez on the ticket with Kasich?

Anyone but anther NE RINO who will get destroyed.

I have five names:

1. Hillary Clinton
2. Hillary Clinton
3. Hillary Clinton
4. Hillary Clinton
5. Hillary Clinton

If anyone think someone else wins big besides her, fine. She is still the big winner, and it doesn’t matter if anyone else comes in second.

Why do I say this?

Chris Cristie is our most Left Potential Candidate. He would run Left. And if he ran Left, what would that force Hillary to do? Why it would force her to run Left of him to keep her base in line.

If Hillary were forced to run right of Cristie, she would start to loose support. If she didn’t, she’d lose any crossover based on her being a women.

Hillary wants to reimage herself as a centerist. If Cristie is in, she can’t. If he isn’t in, she can fill that slot and claim she’s not at all as Leftist as people have said she was.

Cristie disrupts this tactic, and it’s why Cristie finds himself in such hot water right now.

I have been trying to urge folks to be cautious on trashing Cristie. I want Hillary to have to run from the Left. I want her to have to out-Left Cristie.

I want her to be seen for who she is, and who she has always been. She’s a skank, freeloader, who rode her husband’s coat-tails all the way to Little Rock, and from there to Washington, D. C.

She is a Leftist from the word go, and she has proven to be incompetent with her initial HillaryCare, to the supervision of what took place at Waco, and overseeing what took place at Benghazi.

Hillary is a daft helpless fiction, drummed up by the Leftist media in this nation. She hasn’t achieved a single thing in her life on her own.

Martinez, Rice, Kasich do not fit with your list of conservatives.

I don’t discount Mr. Paul because he’s been a supporter of smaller gov. in spite of his home state endorsement (which I am sure he probably got support from McConnell for election in his first run).

When I write this, I think of the primaries. We’ll toast Cristie, but as long as he is out there in the primaries, Hillary has to position herself accordingly.

I do not want him on our ticket. By that time folks will know Hillary for who she is, and we can select a better candidate for our side.

Christie is done, and Hillary well can you say Obama2.0?

Sorry, but the American public is already stick of him, which puts her in a hole.

The controllers- (GOPe, pundits, stealth dems, others under the radar) WILL try to shove a NE RINO down our throats (or somewhere else) and if we are not vigilant, it will happen. We must rearrange and control, if possible, our primaries to prevent the pro liberal, open primary states with their dead and “acorn” bussed-in voters and move solid red states forward in the sequence. The prior primaries have allowed the other side to select our candidates for too long- Reference Dole, McCain, Romney.

Yes, that does put her in a hole unless she runs right. You watch. She’s going to sell herself as the new slightly Left Reagan.

Count Christie out. He’s too busy writing the script for a new Hollywood movie, “A Bridge Too Far, Part II”.
