Time to debunk the myth of the tax-free expat

Many people dream of what it might be like to pack up everything and move abroad. Currently, there are more than 6.3 million Americans who have done just that, keeping their U.S. passport but building a new life in one of more than 160 countries around the world.

Thanks for asking!

First, we talk to people, and quit running away from confrontations. There are folks out there who would like to be conservative and patriotic, but are so cowed by the mainstream Obammunist lickspittle media -- news and entertainment -- that they go along to get along. I know. That was me for a short while back in the Klinton days, before I discovered my b*lls. Talk to people. Get into public arguments with Lefties, 'cause there are people watching who will listen to what you're saying, even if they're just passive bystanders. Do your homework, come up with good arguments, figure out how to handle their "rebuttals", then let 'em have it.

Two: start attending your local Tea Party meetings. If they're a bunch of ineffectual lazy-a** sissies who only want to pretend they're doing something, take over. If you can't take over, start your own Tea Party group, and recruit members away from the do-nothings. Go on Facebook and start your own TP group page. Go on WordPress and start your own TP group website. Advertise the hell out of it.

Once you get your group up, running and pi**ed off, get them out in the streets. Being loud and visible is what created the Tea Party, and it was only when they (we) got scared of being called racists and went underground that they lost momentum. The Tea Party is mainstream America, despite what the lickspittle media say about us. Lots of those bystanders who watch but don't jump in right away know that, and are only looking for an excuse to join you/us. Give them that excuse.

Next, RUN FOR OFFICE! A good campaign, combining social media and good old fashioned shoe leather can get you elected to the city clowncil or county commission. Start locally, and work from there. Stay true to the principles that got you elected, and never forget the people who put you in office. Keep them posted on everything you're doing, and never miss an opportunity to swing a wavering would-be conservative to your side.

Become a conservative/patriotic community organizer. Print flyers, and go door to door. Solicit donations to keep yourself in business. Talk with and find candidates that you can support, then convince your neighborhood/district to support them, too. If you can't find anyone, refer to my last suggestion. Once they're elected to office, make sure you and all the people you lobbied hold that politician's feet to the fire.

Too many people think we need to start at the top, when we need to look locally first. Remember the 2000 elections...it was local elections board liberals in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties that almost made Algore president.

We need honest, conservative people who will follow the rules and get an honest tally, regardless of the outcome, in these positions. We need conservatives on county commissions and city clowncils, to keep taxes low, and to hold our state legislators' feet to the fire. We need state legislators who have the guts to stand up to DC and tell them, "hell no, we ain't enforcing your unconstitutional gun laws (Obamacare laws, immigration laws, whatever).

There are many things we can do, and need to do, before rounds start going downrange. But we need to get busy doing them, instead of throwing up our hands and biding our time until Claire Wolfe's alarm clock goes off. Yeah, there are times when I think nothing can be done, then I get hold of myself and kick my own a**. Maybe the worst case nightmare is a foregone conclusion, but when I go to my Maker, I want to be able to tell Him I did everything I could before opting for the last resort.

And yes, I'm working on a plan to implement most of what I just outlined, so my money (literally) is where my mouth is. I'm only one guy, in one district, in one town. Now, what if we all got motivated and did the same thing in our own neighborhoods and towns? Wouldn't that be better than just immediately jumping from square 1 to square 20? Speak up, speak out, do something!

I'll be dead ... and so will most .. or a lot ... of us here by the time step one really does anything more than what it's done in the last 20 years

I'm already a school board member

The clock is running too quickly ... even for you .. . but I applaud your idealism and ask that you allow the virgin to lie beside David to keep him warm

NONE of us deserve each other as enemies, but I will not stay here and die a death that will serve no one.

I'd rather close my eyes in peace and so would others.

We ARE, after all, supposed to be men of good conscience and conscience is con (with) science (validity)

We are already in the future ... a time and a half (at least) has passed already and we spent it talking and hoping while the enemy marched, more successfully than we, advancing their influence.

We are thinkers, they are drones and there are a hellavalot more drones (and many more on the horizon unless they are stopped .. and THAT won't happen politically ... thus ... )

Direct your anger and frustration towards your enemy ... not your compatriot who is not necesarily in your camp, but is on your side.

Reagan said the party left him ... what does a man do when his nation abandons him ?

Sounds like our buddy is mistaking “No requirement to pay” with “No requirement to file”.

“the most basic tax return from overseas can cost anywhere from $3,000 to $7,500”

Things must have changed a lot in the 15 years since I left Japan. The income limit then was $78,000, and it took me all of an extra 15 minutes to fill out the extra page on my 1040. I only had salary, so a business owner might have to spend more time.

"I'll be dead ... and so will most .. or a lot ... of us here by the time step one really does anything more than what it's done in the last 20 years"

I see it differently. I don't think we've begun to fight. We've been flapping our gums, or listening to Limbaugh flap his, but we've not yet begun to fight. The only things we've been doing, for the last 20 years, online and on talk radio, is preaching to the choir and bitching to people who already think the same as we do. Our side, by and large, is afraid to fight and make people mad. It goes for our politicians, and ourselves. We need to grow a collective backbone, and go out every day to do verbal combat with our political enemies.

"I'm already a school board member"

Great...so you're already in position to do some good. Be optimistic, fight the good fight, and it will rub off on the parents of your district. Give them an example to follow, don't just reinforce their feelings of helplessness.

"The clock is running too quickly ... even for you .. . but I applaud your idealism and ask that you allow the virgin to lie beside David to keep him warm.

I know the story, but I'm not sure how it applies to me. Maybe you're saying the USA is on her death bed, and I'm the virgin standing by her to provide her comfort? Okay, that's a new one on me, but yes, I do have a tendency to be a bit idealistic at times. However, I'd rather be an idealist than without hope. As for the USA being on her deathbed...sorry, I just flat-out disagree with you there. America is the same sleeping giant she was in 1941...I just hope we can wake her before another Pearl Harbor.

"NONE of us deserve each other as enemies, but I will not stay here and die a death that will serve no one."

If you're planning to go expat, or already have, that's your business. I certainly wouldn't try to stop you, even if I knew you. Just pay your expat taxes (IOW, pull your share of the load) and don't insult the USA from your beach chair thousands of miles away, and we'll have no problem. I'll even wish you luck.

"We are already in the future ... a time and a half (at least) has passed already and we spent it talking and hoping while the enemy marched, more successfully than we, advancing their influence."

I couldn't agree with you more. We talked and dithered for far too long, and there are still those on this very forum who think now is the time to "read books", or "think of politics like a chess game". No! Now's the time to do what we should've done 10-15-20 years ago...stand and fight, metaphorically speaking, else we'll have to do it literally. I even share some of your pessimism, though not all of it. While I'm working and praying for the best, I'm planning for the worst. I think we're just about out of time, but not yet. You and I will just have to agree to disagree there.

"We are thinkers, they are drones and there are a hellavalot more drones (and many more on the horizon unless they are stopped .. and THAT won't happen politically ... thus ... )"

Again, I disagree. Yes, there are a lot more drones out there as things stand today than there are thinkers, but many of those who appear to be drones aren't drones at all. They're would-be conservatives and patriots, who are cowering in fear and anonymity, because they don't want to get in an argument with their neighbors and co-workers. They go along to get along, because they don't have the guts to stand up and defend their actual beliefs. I'm sure you know parents in your district who are exactly like that. Well, I don't want to sound patronizing, but you're a leader. People voted for you. Show them some courage, some charisma, give them an example to follow, and they will. Leaders can bring the majority out of the shadows, if we just lead.

"Direct your anger and frustration towards your enemy ... not your compatriot who is not necessarily in your camp, but is on your side."

If I've come across as sounding angry toward you, I apologize...that wasn't my intent. If you're talking about Alex, he deserves every bit of ire I throw at him, but that's another situation entirely. I don't consider you and he to be in the same ballpark.

"Reagan said the party left him ... what does a man do when his nation abandons him ?"

The country hasn't gone anywhere. The Left has been emboldened because the vast center-right, conservative, patriotic, but largely spineless majority has gone underground. They've gone underground because of a lack of leadership from our side. They watch "Will and Grace" and think that everyone in the country but them supports homo marriage. So they just shut up, because they don't want their co-workers to call them rednecks. They hear Jon Stewart laughing at and deriding Rand Paul and Ted Cruz, so they dare not speak out in support of those two brave men...they don't want to be called right-wing kooks by their neighbors and co-workers. Our ranks would swell if we just stepped up and led them out of their hidey-holes, and into the arena to do battle along side of us.

As Beck says, "we surround them"...only we're afraid to act like the majority we are. Leaders can bring those shirkers out of the shadows, IF AND ONLY IF we give them examples to follow.

Otherwise, we might as well go ahead and start loading magazines. Right or wrong, I'm not to that point yet.

“You guys obviously love the ignoble American government”

First I love when some one starts “you guys” because you know you are talking to a slick talking weed.

I challenge you to look back and find where I have ever ever said I love our American government?

I love the republic form of government our fathers setup for us to follow and prosper under not to run to another country and hide there bashing the country they left.

My comment may have been misdirected because I have no idea what RUUTROW means, especially followed by; "for one person who loves to bash America and lives abroad....."

Alex is my friend and I will join him in about a year.

I married a Filipina four years ago and she has been held up for citizenship for a year, while the illegals storm forward via the republican (spit) party.

“...there are plenty of civil wars going on all over the globe..”

The Ukraine is on fire too right now...Have you guys seen some of the photos coming out of there? The citizens have surplus helmets, homemade riot shields, pepper spray, even firearms and are taking it to the streets.

It’s a mess...

I HAVE seen the (I think original) footage and because it never came back up again her in FR, I had forgotten

I saw citizens molotoving the popo and the police did not seem to want ... or were prevented from firing back .... which I thought unusual.

RE Police:

Yes... they seem to be (at least what WE’RE allowed to see) exercising a greater restraint than I would have thought they would.

Gasoline and fire... simple, effective, and wicked.

It’s something we should be paying attention to very closely out here.

I believe both parties let the wets across but you can blame one party if you wish if you are that naive.

I spent 5 years on the STexas border trying to keep the illegal aliens out. Did all the other things too but the money magnet keeps bringing them over.

and bye bye and do not let the gate hit you in the rear on the way out....

Nope, founded a bloodhound team with other like minded patriots that work with border CSO and BP popping brush in search of illegal invaders and drug smugglers.

We also do SAR on a local level.

I am mid 50’s and still run behind a 120 lb bloodhound even though my doc says to stop.

So, if you want to abandon your country because the going gets a lil rough for you and your wife by all means get the heck out. We need fighters not runners and whiners.
