My post was a (not so clever) reference to the Scandinavian Zoo thread where it was reported that a Giraffe was slaughtered in front of a (admittedly urban) crowd and then the meat fed to other zoo residents. It wasn’t so much what they did as how they went about it.
No problem. I have no problem with them doing it but the way they did it was pretty crude.
From what I read, it was well advertised as the what was going to happen, and those people who wanted to see at the zoo what happens in the wild, -- minus the lions ripping up and eating the Giraffe alive. The giraffe died a very quick and painless death via a bolt gun vs a pack of lions ripping out pieces of flesh while it was still alive.
The lions have to eat meat every day. As the zoo director said, if it were a couple of pigs or an antelope or two instead of a giraffe, would anyone have cared?
Obviously not. The lions eat pounds and pounds of meat every day from one animal or another and none of the 'appalled' people seam inclined to see the lions starve instead.
