they are full of mentions of God and patriotism and love of America... And her talent and appeal were exponentially greater than the belching, snot-nosed, mouthy brats who permeate TV and movies these days.

RIP. One of the few child stars to live a good and normal life. I think it helped greatly that she bid adieu to show biz at age 21.

I will always remember Shirley Temple as an early breast cancer advocate. She went public with her surgery at a time when most women were too terrified to even talk about theirs. She also put her life on the line by choosing to undergo a less disfiguring type of mastectomy that was still considered experimental.
She exemplified the best in modern feminism. She was a victor, never a victim.
