Holder wants felons to vote
Legal Insurrection ^ | 2-11-2014 | William A. Jacobson

I wonder who he thinks they will vote for? Let me think about that a while, ahem, tough call.

Eric Holder wants millions of convicted felons to vote, urging states to change existing laws.

Holder Urges States to Repeal Bans on Felons’ Voting:

Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. on Tuesday urged states to repeal laws that prohibit felons from voting, a move that would restore the right to vote to millions of people.

The call was mostly symbolic — Mr. Holder has no authority to enact these changes himself — but it marked the attorney general’s latest effort to eliminate laws that he says disproportionately keep minorities from the polls. “It is unwise, it is unjust, and it is not in keeping with our democratic values,” Mr. Holder said at civil rights conference at Georgetown University. These laws deserve to be not only reconsidered, but repealed.”

African-Americans represent more than a third of the estimated 5.8 million people who are prohibited from voting, according to the Sentencing Project, a research group that favors more liberal sentencing policies. And in Florida, Kentucky, and Virginia, more than one in five African-Americans has lost the right to vote.

There may be a more severe impact on minority communities, but that’s a function of the convictions, not the voting laws.

Perhaps there should be a waiting period, or lifetime exclusions only for certain levels of criminal convictions.

Regardless, I think it’s probably going nowhere.

He wants felons to vote? Why not, they’re serving in the administration.

Why shouldn’t felons vote? After all, most of them are “his” type of people.

The 14th amendment recognizes the right of states to deny the right to vote to persons guilty of a crime...not that Holder and Obama won’t continue to try to find a way to force states to give felons voting rights.

My son has a felony and HATES OBAMA! He is a staunch conservative and actually converted some prisoners in prison.

Well shouldn’t felons also have their 2nd Amendment rights restored, Mr. Eric the Black? Why is one right more important than another?

I was thinking the same thing. And while we are at it, why should anyone be required to provide an ID when purchasing a firearm?

Yes, then they can vote to enact legislation so their future criminal acts are no longer felonies. Or crimes at all.

Oddly enough, I also want felons to vote - and to be able to own firearms - after they have served their time and fulfilled all their other obligations imposed by our criminal justice system as a result of their felonious activity.

The Boston Tea Party participants would have been "felons" in their day.

Here’s an alternative headline: “Nation’s Top Cop Says Let Criminals Help Pick Sheriffs.”

Or:

does this mean ALL rights restored. (ie all enumerated in the constitution WITHOUT EXCEPTION)?

The Constitution does not enumerate rights granted to individuals. It enumerates and restricts the powers granted to the federal government.

Criminals are big on doing their ‘civic duty’ and voting? Not likly. That's not Holder's issue.

What Holder wants is more registered democrats to ‘vote’ if they don't show up at the polls.

That's how dems do voter fraud. They vote the people who don't show up. It's why the dead are ‘voted’. They don't show up.

How many ‘dead’ vote is a good indicator of how much fraud is going on. The lower the ‘dead vote’ the lower the fraud necessary to win the election by a small margin.

Is there any chance we can make him a felon so that he can understand the process better?

He would be had Columbia not declined to prosecute. This decision may have been made to avoid a repeat of violent Columbia campus confrontations between police and members of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) in 1968.

If a felon has his right to vote restored, then they should restore ALL CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS TO FELONS INCLUDING GUN OWNERSHIP.

It’s wishful thinking but now that America is so populated everyone would be happier if states rights were transferred to county level rights. It would let the big city Democrats destroy their rat nests and let rural conservatives live free. Conservatives should support felons and illegals voting in the big city counties because it adds yet another reason they are terrible places to live.

Quite frankly, as a former Prosecutor, all felonies are not created equal. I simply don’t think that all felons should be permanently barred from voting. There are many non-violent felonies that shouldn’t require that extreme a penalty.

characteristics that most felons possess; they are lazy, most are dumb and they think the world owes them something and if they don’t get it, they take it. Except for the dumb part in most cases, that also describes DC politicians.

“African-Americans represent more than a third of the estimated 5.8 million people who are prohibited from voting...”

That means that two thirds of them ARE NOT african “americans”.
