70-Year-Old Nurse Savagely Beaten by Patient After Removing His Catheter
Breitbart ^ | Feb 11, 2014 | Robert Wilde

Posted on 02/11/2014 1:20:06 PM PST by Gritty

A 70-year-old nurse, who was described by her co-worker as a “sweet old lady,” was knocked to the floor and beaten repeatedly in the head until she was unconscious. The attacker was the patient for whom she was caring.

On Friday afternoon, Evelyn Lynch was taking out the catheter of 40-year-old Kwincii Jones as she was preparing to discharge him from Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, NY. Police reported that Jones struck the nurse on the head and kicked her in the face, causing serious injuries. “I actually hear she was a sweet old lady,” a Brookdale employee told CBS 2. “That’s why it’s a little weird to me because I don’t know why it would happen. It’s not like she was mean or anything like that.”

You guys are all laughing about a lifelong nurse, who brought so much to so many people in 50 years of nursing, getting beaten up by a big dude.

you all are disgusting

The most disgusting is KoRn, who thought it was ok to beat up a 70 year old nurse.

There is just not a thing funny about this story.

I’ll say this, I’d like to know the rest of the story before rading all these disgusting stupid nurse jokes.

I can guarantee that after 50 years of nursing, she doesn’t need instruction from you oafs.

I can also speculate that this guy was catheterized - a strong 40 year old- for reasons that point to an abusive lifestyle.

“A catheter insertion on male or female is equally as painful.”

not according to any of the women I have asked, but then again, the birth process suggests a higher pain tolerance

I’ve never read language like this on Free Republic.

Yes, childbirth would definitely change your perspective. Most catheter insertion is done under anesthesia, for big time surgical procedures. Hospitals usually avoid catheters, due to the high risk of UTIs.I bet you this patient had the catheter inserted under anesthesia, and then had it removed when awake. It stings and burns on removal. He beat the nurse up, and that is a laughing matter to some Freepers. It is also an acceptable behavior to KoRn.

An external device does exist. I don’t know the proper name for it. Had one on me during an angiogram at VA hospital. It looks like a condom with a tube coming out the end.

I have had patients who woke up in the middle of the night, disoriented, got out of bed to walk to the urinal and with a 15 cc balloon blown up he self-dialated his urethra. As the balloon is pulled through the prostatic urethra it becomes somewhat distorted and is only about 1 1/2 to 2 cm in diameter. The problem is that thaw membranous urethra is only about 2/3 of a cm in diameter. Something is going to give. That something is your urethra. It becomes ruptured and then the bleeding begins. Some of the first bleeding will flow into the bladder and large clots will form….large maroon clots. In order for one to then micturate those clots must be washed out. So you put in a larger foley catheter. This can be tricky because with the membrane ruptured you can force the new catheter to 'tunnel' and create a false passage, creating more problems. Here comes the cold, stainless steel urethral dilators. If you can get it into the bladder you can evacuate the clots. Then we start again to place the larger catheter. Once you access the bladder full of clots you get a 50cc irrigation syringe and begin to wash, with some pressure, That is…..uncomfortable. The patient will leave their fingerprints in the metal railing on the bed from the pain. Women don't have the problem because their urethra is only about 1 cm in length. ON the other hand a male urethra is somewhat longer and variant from one patient to another..

Anyway, if the clots are evacuated successfully, the the catheter, with the bulb inflated is put on tension for several hours to put pressure on vessel which might be bleeding. After several days to a week, you deflate the balloon (or you might be sent home with a catheter in place). Once you are able to get the 30 cc balloon deflated and the catheter is gently pulled, you are given the opportunity to pee on your own. That is always a nice experience. It sort of like pissing grass burrs or small shards of glass. With each successive elimination it gets easier. Some people actually get their valve ruptured and have to live with the catheter from now on (some very elderly).

So there it is, in a nutshell. The old ruptured urethra from walking away from the foley bag hung on the bed rail. Try to remember the foley bag. Don't let your self walk away from the foley catheter. Direct TV cable commercial is somewhere in here.

Condom catheter. It only works if you can urinate, but if you are sedated, and unable to urinate you need a foley.

I’d like to think at her age she had been doing her job a long long time and knew what she was doing. The man was an animal.

Next time they should get a male nurse to do the job.

Kwincii saw “Lynch” on her nametag, and that set him off.

Not to be too graphic about it (or possibly admit some shortcomings of my own, lol), when I saw a catheter to be used for men I really wondered how the hell that thing would fit through the urethra in my penis.

Oh give it a rest! The photo from the Porky’s movie in conjunction with a discussion on painful catheter removal was hilarious. No one said it was funny the nurse got beaten up by the thug. That was wrong and nobody is laughing at it. I was catheterized after surgery when I had to lay there in bed for a week while I healed and it had nothing to do with an abusive lifestyle. Hurt like Hell when they took it out, too. Lighten up.

Now he states he was joking, after I reported him. Nursing is a hard, tough job. Nurses are not punching bags, and we have to deal with the dregs of society. It is interesting. The most highly trained and educated people- physicians, nurses and other heath care professionals have to deal with the lowest members of society on a daily basis. It is a sad statement,( on top of everything else), for people to joke, or be sarcastic of a 70 year old nurse getting beaten up by another loser lowlife. i would expect better than that on this forum. I don't post much, but this really angered me.

Makes sense. I was awake during the angiogram. Strapped down to the table so I couldn’t move at all. Didn’t much care for that part.

Brings back bad nightmares of after my operation. They took out the catheter and gave me a bottle. “If you can’t fill this up by morning we’ll have to put the catheter back in.”

And of course for the first few hours - nothing!! Boy - talk about performance anxiety!
