Fractured House approves debt ceiling hike--‘Clean’ bill drops all GOP demands
the Washington Times ^ | February 11, 2014 | Stephen Dinan

The House passed a “clean” debt ceiling increase Tuesday granting President Obama power to borrow as much as the government needs for the next 13 months, after House Republican leaders surrendered their longstanding vow to demand concessions in exchange for any debt hike.

Unable to muster his own troops, GOP Speaker John A. Boehner had to turn to Democrats to provide the votes to pass the legislation, which cleared on a 221-201 vote. The bill now goes to the Senate, which needs to pass it before the end of the month or else the Treasury Department says it will run out of borrowing room and face a market-rattling default of the government’s obligations.

Mr. Boehner said he was left no choice, but said voters should take their anger out on Mr. Obama.

“It’s the president driving up the debt and the president wanting to do nothing about the debt that’s occurring, [who] will not engage in our long-term spending problem — and so let his party give him the debt-ceiling increase that he wants,” the Ohio Republican said.

Democrats hailed the vote as a victory and heaped praise on Mr. Boehner, who they said put the country ahead of the tea party wing of his own Republican caucus by going ahead with the vote.

The final tally saw just 28 Republicans join 193 Democrats in voting for the increase. Two Democrats voted against it, along with 199 Republicans.

“Once again, the Republican Party and their caucus has shown they’re not responsible enough to be ruling and governing here,” said Rep. Joe Crowley, New York Democrat.

I’m surprised the RINO’s didn’t throw in a tax hike for good measure. We’ve come a long way from 2010.

So much for the Hastert rule.

There should be an immediate election of a new Speaker as he longer speaks for the majority.

Obama will be in hog heaven.

He owns it! He owns it! He owns it! The debt, the medical mess, all of it. Hang it around their necks and keep making it their albatross. In the meantime...buy gold!

Yup:

What about getting the Keystone Pipeline, and repatriation of the 1.5 trillion of overseas cash at a 5% tax rate instead of 35%?

With the lowest labor participation rate, salaries going down and jobless up by 1.7 million under Obama’s watch, how does Obama win every time.

70% of Americans feel the country is headed in the wrong direction and the GOP can’t take advantage of that?

No wonder the congress is held in very low regard.

Yep. Sen Cruz just commented something to the effect that the House just gave 0 a blank check.

with democrats...

The other thread on this issue are filled with those telling us we HAVE to vote for EINOs in the general if they aren’t primaried.

Stupid like that is why Bohner pulled the football again. He knows there are enough utter morons that will vote GOP NO MATTER WHAT THEY DO.

I’ve seen plenty of people on TV - of various colors - who give zero credit for “trying really hard”. And then they go on to blame the Republicans - not understanding in the least what they’re saying.

Well, I suppose if you’re used to men who are lazy and spend a lot of time in jail maybe Obama looks good. zero is the potus of low expectations.
