Political narratives are necessarily reductive, invariably gauzy and thus often misleading," writes the New York Times Magazine's Robert Draper in a 7,000-plus word profile of Texas Democratic candidate for governor Wendy Davis.
Draper favorably examines the complicated biography of Davis, which the Dallas Morning News revealed is different than the one told by her campaign.
While Draper acknowledges that key facts of her biography remain disputed, he insists that "female politicians were far more constrained than men in how they recounted their stories.
"A man could break the mold of American virtue. A woman challenged stereotypes at her peril," he writes. "The archetype an unimpeachable balance of dedicated public service and exemplary mothering seems inescapable, even in 2014."
Citing the personal narratives of presidential biographies, he writes that "no one ever stopped Clinton, Bush or Obama in his biographical tracks to say: 'Wait. If you were out there, conquering the world, then you could not have been here, with your family'."
Will women judge her harshly because of the newly public details of her political background?
Davis admits to Draper that there will always be people who view her decisions critically.
"I would hope they would share some admiration for what I did to climb from where I was, she explains.
All Wendy Davis did was to talk for 12 hours, something which most women can do easily.
Seems that feminism has taken a few steps backwards in the intervening years.
I think it means we aren’t supposed to say it’s wrong for a mom to abandon her children (and two husbands) to pursue a career. Frankly, I don’t give men a pass for doing that, so why should I give Wendy Davis one? In fact, I don’t even accept the propagandist’s, aka author’s, point that Americans in general give men a pass, since even leftists go after deadbeat dads with a vengeance.
Well, maybe she’s like the gabby and mark kelley-giffords show and is actually a “gun safety advocate”. ;>}
And the narrative and lies are being put in place for yet another total zero to assume an unearned and undeserved office.
Wendy Davis is a complete fabrication and an artificial construct of half-truths and deliberate misstatement of all that she ever was or shall ever be. Any of the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders on the current squad would be a much superior selection as candidate for Texas governor.
She lies when the actual truth would serve her so much better, in establishing her bona fides.
Wow! Them libs want Texas soooooooo bad!
From yesterday:
She’s a liar.
She loves abortion.
She’s a liberal.
Everything democrats require for greatness.
The article goes at length to say she’s being victimized by her critics for putting her career ahead of family. Yet she was the one who said how rough she had it as a single mother (a role she held very briefly and she didn’t even fund her schooling).
Her “me too” story fell apart. Yet the Democrat shills in the media want to ignore that aspect and talk about how inspiring she is.
