I think it’s self centeredness with a dash of weakness and cowardice as well. Too fearful that a child will get in the way, or they “won’t be able to handle it,” or won’t be able to figure out how to reach their all important goals.
Who thinks like that? Freaking WIMPS think like that!
I had one of those. Hubby and I were walking for hours while she cried. Nothing seemed to soothe her. It went away eventually, and now we have a very independent and self-reliant young woman, living on her own in Japan. Stick with it, it is worth it. The diapers, and the spit-up and the crying are very brief periods in the life of a child, who grows up to be a wonderful adult.
i thinks it’s more of a conscious refusal to take the final step from adolescence to true, independent adulthood. they don’t want to give up being the center of the universe.
