Senate passes debt-ceiling plan in blow to tea party (Ted Cruz's attempted filibuster denied)

Washington (CNN) -- The Senate voted Wednesday to avert at least one chronic Washington political crisis for more than a year.

With a snowstorm bearing down on the capital, it approved a House-passed measure that allows the government to borrow more money to pay its bills through March 2015.

The White House signaled that President Barack Obama would sign the legislation, so the Senate vote was the last hurdle to resolving the debt ceiling issue until after the November congressional elections.

Wednesday's result was a blow to tea party conservatives who oppose any kind of increase in federal borrowing.

Filibuster denied

Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, a leader of the GOP tea party wing, mounted a filibuster attempt to force a 60-vote threshold for proceeding on the debt ceiling measure.

However, a dozen Republicans, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, joined Democrats to overcome the filibuster on a 67-31 procedural vote that avoided another politically damaging legislative impasse over spending.

Read the tea leaves, Mitch McConnell and John Cornyn. There’s a primary in your future.

Remember: 2014 OPEN SEASON on RINOs is right around the corner! Make sure that you are ready to take down as many RINOs as possible. There is NO BAG LIMIT!

FOR THE CHILDREN, of course.

Primary all of the GOPe DOPEes. Someone needs to artistically render Boehner and McConnell as “Cavemen”.

Is there actually a new, higher formal debt limit, or is it just more of “spend what you want, no limit”?

I was unable to find that answered in the article.

If there is a limit, what is it?

a blow to tea party conservatives

Help I've fallen and I can't get up!

Do they think the weight of a budget bill can hold us down?

Plus, to the idiots, morons and imbeciles at CNN: it's TEA Party as in Taxed Enough Already Party.

Not a blow to the tea party. If anything, it should infuriate and energize the tea party. This is a blow to the GOP-e which may very well be routed for its continuing betrayal of America.

Can you suggest a good vest to store the corpses in as I continue to hunt during the season?

I would argue that Senator Cruz concluded from the beginning that his filibuster attempt would fail. He did us a service by managing to flush out the RINO’s that are working in concert with the Dems.

Cornyn Votes Against Raising the Debt Ceiling

Feb 12 2014

WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) issued the following statement after voting against raising the debt ceiling.

“After five years of out-of-control White House spending, including a jobless, trillion-dollar stimulus, now is hardly the time to give the President carte blanche to continue his spending spree. I voted against raising the debt ceiling because we need sensible reforms to cut down on spending and restrain Washington going forward.”

You might want to check out what Gander Mountain or Bass Pro Shops has in stock. :-)

My preference is to leave the carcasses for the buzzards, but that’s just me. I’m tired of lugging their worthless hides all over the place.

Cornyn Votes Against Raising the Debt Ceiling

In a surprise move nearly 40 minutes in to the procedural vote, McConnell voted in favor of advancing the bill. Texas’ John Cornyn, the Republican whip, then joined him. Both senators are up for re-election in 2014, and McConnell faces challenges from both his left and right, heightening the pressure he faces on nearly every move he makes in the Senate.

Normal traitorous, deceitful behavior of that Democrat Collaborating Cornyn!

Cornyn Votes Against Raising the Debt Ceiling

He voted for the debt ceiling increase before he voted against it.

The cloture vote was the only vote which mattered. He not only voted for it, but he and McConnell whipped ten other "Republicans" in line to vote for it too.

Between the backstabbing of McConnell, Cornyn, Bonehead and Cantor, the stellar leadership of the republican party they now in the leadership role of the cave party.

Their embarrassing leadership is not something that is learned over time for them it is as natural as breathing.

That’s Cornyn’s shtick all over. Support cloture to move the bill forward and then posture with a now meaningless vote against. Then proceed to beat your chest about how “conservative” you are. The bald-faced mendacity and duplicity is jaw-dropping.
