Senate passes debt-ceiling plan in blow to tea party (Ted Cruz's attempted filibuster denied)

Washington (CNN) -- The Senate voted Wednesday to avert at least one chronic Washington political crisis for more than a year.

With a snowstorm bearing down on the capital, it approved a House-passed measure that allows the government to borrow more money to pay its bills through March 2015.

The White House signaled that President Barack Obama would sign the legislation, so the Senate vote was the last hurdle to resolving the debt ceiling issue until after the November congressional elections.

Wednesday's result was a blow to tea party conservatives who oppose any kind of increase in federal borrowing.

Filibuster denied

Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, a leader of the GOP tea party wing, mounted a filibuster attempt to force a 60-vote threshold for proceeding on the debt ceiling measure.

However, a dozen Republicans, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, joined Democrats to overcome the filibuster on a 67-31 procedural vote that avoided another politically damaging legislative impasse over spending.

Yep, just like the Obamacare “shutdown”, Mr. Cornyn has lasted beyond his usefulness. I called him a sellout liar on his website, I wonder if it is still there.

Cornyn’s catching flak on his Facebook page. He’s not fooling anyone there.

Sounds to me like the media is trying to create a tea party defeat out of thin air.

Seems rather desperate to me.

It’s another suspension. To Mar 15 2015.
Search “debt limit suspension” and you’ll get a source quick.

These suspensions scare the heck out of me.

I saw a democrat claiming that “Even Michele Bachmann supported the debt increase”. What he didn’t mention was the fact that she voted against it.

They’re just trying to play a perception game.

How is this a blow to the tea party? If anything, it gets them more supporters from mainstream GOP.

Tea partiers didn’t really mount a big fight against it and fewer house republicans voted for it than voted for it last time.

We knew it was a foregone conclusion in the house of lords... er senate

There’s a primary in your future.”

Early voting begins in the 18th and the primary voting is over on March 4. Would like to see Cornyn soundly defeated or at least kept below 50% so he is forced into a runoff. Prayers up, man the phones and put the boots on the ground!

Well conservatives: you sit on your collective asses being the the smartest people in the room and this is what you get.

The push for a more centrist government has brought us the hardest left wing government ever. :)

>> “In a blow to tea party”

Only the RINOs went for this concession. Not a blow to TEA.

I am SO looking forward to throwing some of these RINO assh*les out on their asses in November.

One Giant Middle Finger from the Tea Party and America.

this is not a blow to TEA party, and with prove to be a self destruction of the RNC republican leadership. And the TEA Party will rise from their ashes.

Just one more battle in a longer war.

We WILL win this thing, whatever it takes.

America didn’t get this far by backing down from anyone, and certainly not by backing down to half-assed PUBLIC SERVANTS who can’t decide which side of the fence they want to be on, and the damned DOMESTIC ENEMIES across the aisle that they’re so fond of helping.

November needs to send the message to every squish Republican: You’re either with US, the People you work for, or you’re with THEM (the Dems); and if you’re with them you will be replaced.

No ashes to rise from, friend.

You’re still here. I’m still here. FR is still here... and all across the country, Tea Party groups with no central leader to provide a target for the other side are mobilizing to remove RINOs and Dems alike.

I’m predicting some serious housecleaning this year.
