Senate passes debt-ceiling plan in blow to tea party (Ted Cruz's attempted filibuster denied)

Washington (CNN) -- The Senate voted Wednesday to avert at least one chronic Washington political crisis for more than a year.

With a snowstorm bearing down on the capital, it approved a House-passed measure that allows the government to borrow more money to pay its bills through March 2015.

The White House signaled that President Barack Obama would sign the legislation, so the Senate vote was the last hurdle to resolving the debt ceiling issue until after the November congressional elections.

Wednesday's result was a blow to tea party conservatives who oppose any kind of increase in federal borrowing.

Filibuster denied

Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, a leader of the GOP tea party wing, mounted a filibuster attempt to force a 60-vote threshold for proceeding on the debt ceiling measure.

However, a dozen Republicans, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, joined Democrats to overcome the filibuster on a 67-31 procedural vote that avoided another politically damaging legislative impasse over spending.

Here are the RINOs who voted for cloture:

Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wy.)

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine)

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.)

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas)

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.)

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah)

Sen. Mike Johanns (Neb.)

Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.)

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.)

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.)

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska)

Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.)

As an Arizona native I am truly ashamed of the rotten choices we made in the Senate. Everyone knows about McLame but the Flake was a colossal unforced error. He also ran a p*ss poor race and nearly got beat by the RAT Carmona.

I’m surprised not to see Kelly Ayotte on the list. This supposedly tea party senator has been a huge disappointment.

The “news” media are in an all-out war with the TEA Party. They need to be called on it and the TP need to go to war with the media.
