Appeals court rules self-defense is a good enough reason to carry a concealed gun

SAN DIEGO — A divided federal appeals court on Thursday issued a decision in a San Diego County case that could upend the way California issues concealed-weapon permits and open the door for many legal gun owners to carry loaded weapons, including in their cars.

The opinion, issued by a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, said law-abiding citizens are allowed to carry firearms outside of the home for self-defense. The decision reversed a lower court’s ruling that had denied an independent journalist’s ability to carry a concealed weapon in the county.

If upheld, it makes California effectively a “shall issue” state. CCW permits would have to be granted to every eligible California law-abiding applicant according to a uniform set of criteria and not according to the county sheriff/local police chief’s discretion.

Rural California counties have always effectively been “shall issue” in practice. California urban counties have effectively been “no issue” for decades but this ruling could change that in time.

The wording of that poll is bogus. Notice the question says "desire" as if self defense is optional.

If should read; Is your "right" to self defense enough to be granted a concealed weapon permit? YES
