VW workers at Tennessee plant reject union

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Workers at a Volkswagen factory in Tennessee have voted against union representation, a devastating loss that derails the United Auto Workers union's effort to organize Southern factories.

The 712-626 vote released late Friday stunned many labor experts who expected a UAW win because Volkswagen tacitly endorsed the union and even allowed organizers into the Chattanooga factory to make sales pitches.

The UAW for decades has tried without success to organize a foreign-owned plant in a region that's wary of organized labor. The loss now makes it even harder for the union to recruit members at another Southern factory.

VW is the most automated/mechanized/modernized auto maker anyplace anywhere. There newest new car storage facility in Germany uses NO people for normal operation. The cars are driven to the entry of it and the machine takes over, sorts ‘em and parks ‘em. Each of the manufacturing sections in the plant uses ONE operator who monitors sometimes hundreds of robots. VW’s ace-in-the-hole is that they are willing to spend the bucks to eliminate labor and union dumbasses. I expect the NO votes were by the guys who could see their jobs going to a non-union robot. And anyone who doesn’t understand that’s the way the rest of us are going should be happy living out their days in the 19th century.

According to Volkswagen’s own site, approximately 9,500 workers at the Chattanooga plant are not Volkswagen employees at all, but are employed by temporary agencies. Only 3,200 are actual VW employees. I knew VW had A LOT of “leased” workers, but I’m really surprised by those numbers. I’m no fan of Unions, but I have to wonder if all 12,700 workers were actual VW employees and eligible to vote, would the vote have went the other way? http://www.volkswagengroupamerica.com/facts.html

Did any of those ballots have any hanging chads? They might have to do a recount of the vote if that’s the case.

Of course the Thugocrats are pissed off. It’s one less major manufacturing company they can shake down for “contributions”. The workers at the VW plant are happy and they don’t want to unionize. Who the hell does the UAW think they are trying to stick their dirty paws into every factory and production facility in this country?

Thanks for the link. I found it disturbing and sad reading the comments to that article and others by those delusional, kool-aid drinkers over there. They have no clue and apparently no cares in the world that this country is in an economic meltdown.

how long will it be before the NLRB will manufacture... I mean “find” some victims of “intimidation” and ask for another vote but to make sure it’s fair, they won’t allow ID and ask for the votes to be public.

This calls for drastic action. The MSM will have to do a documentary about how unsafe VW cars are.

Barry’s reverse Midas touch is legendary...

That reminds me - Al the Gore has a similar touch - perhaps he should go to California and notice the drought.

Why would they okay a union? They can see for themselves how great it worked out for the coal miners.
