Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas) said he was "encouraged" by the progress on a bipartisan immigration bill and is open to voting for it depending on its final details.

"I'm encouraged by what the so-called 'Gang of Eight' including what Sen. Durbin, Sen. [Marco] Rubio [R-Fla.] and others have come up with," he said on “Fox News Sunday” during a joint appearance with Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.).

-snip-

"But having said that, I want to read it, I want to go through the regular process on the Judiciary Committee and on the floor and I'm open certainly to supporting immigration reform."

Reminder: Cornyn voted for Amnesty cloture, then voted against the bill.

This is his game. So he can tell tea party that he voted against things but actually allows them to come to a vote which would be more effective.

I’m very very unhappy that Texas could not come up with a viable alternative to this guy so we had two ted Cruz types and stop this pandering cornyn is doing.

I don’t trust The Speaker and his gang. They will try to sneak it in with mis-direction.

There is a viable alternative to Cornyn. That would be Dwayne Stovall. He is not Cruz-like in that he is not likely to be Presidential material by 2016, but he is Cruz-like in that his vote would most likely support Cruz's positions virtually 100% of the time, and Stovall would not stab Cruz in the back and undermine him as Cornyn does regularly.

The real problem is Texas voters. At a company where I regularly do contract work, there are about 30 people who could vote, if they wanted to. Not one of them has ever heard of Dwayne Stovall. Maybe 3 or 4 have heard of Cornyn, but most of those could not tell you what government office he holds. So guess who they would vote for if they voted. The good news or bad news, depending on how you look at it, is not one of the 30 are likely to vote, or even be aware that a primary is coming up.
