Next problem for Obamacare: deadbeat enrollees
Yahoo Finance ^ | February 14, 2014 | By Rick Newman

The big question about Obamacare this year is whether enough people will enroll to make the controversial health-reform plan viable.

Another important question has been overlooked, until now: Will people pay their premiums once they enroll? The unsettling answer appears to be maybe not.

The New York Times has discovered that only about 80% of people purchasing health insurance through the federal online marketplace or a similar state-run exchange paid their first month’s premium. There’s no single source of such data, but the Times canvassed insurers participating in the program, such as Aetna (AET), Wellpoint (WLP), Humana (HUM) and Blue Shield of California. All said that the first-month payment rate ranged from 75% to 80% or so, far lower than for typical plans. If enrollees don't pay the first month's premium, their insurance never goes into effect. . .

“There’s no single source of such data...”

Now why, pray tell, can’t that STELLAR website they built with millions and millions of taxpayer dollars tell us that little bit of data?

*SNORT*

A pox on all of their houses!

Wait until these jackasses find out that the deductible will mean most will have to pay full cost of a few visits.

“Will people pay their premiums once they enroll?”

A lot us have been saying this all along. They may pay the first months payment but how about for example the 4th month and so on. I think deadbeat is the right word. They want it for free.

Absolutely no doubt.

As usual, only the honest law abiding Americas will pay. The cheaters will get a free ride on the back of honest Americans. And the Democrats will refuse to hold them to task.

Exactly. You’d think that that bit of information would be important. Like cheating the IRS.

No, it’ll be like welfare — fraud and corruption and no one will be held accountable.

A lot of people, especially those who worship Obama believe it will be free and will send no money. They will be correct as the emergency rooms will treat them anyway.

Why would they think they had to pay anything? The genius in the White House said his “affordable” health care was free.

Incorrect assumption...the government will continue this program whether it is viable or not.

Once they realize that they have to come up $6,000 before the policy pays anything they won’t pay the premiums. Heck,I wouldn’t.

Of those who DO pay the first month, who will continue to pay in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th,..

Many more “deadbeats” coming.

Rates raise and more drop out as time goes by.

Read an article the other day about ‘Aids Activists” signing up HIV people as fast as they can, wherever they can.

Does appear Obamonites are going to any and all with any type of long term illness, or potential for this, to sign up now.

[“There’s no single source of such data...”]

HHS knows exactly how many enrollees have paid premiums because health insurers send them this information every day. HHS needs to know who has paid in order to calculate and pay subsidies. If these numbers were positive the Administration would release them.

There are going to be some pissed off liberals (who have insurance) at emergency rooms. They’ll be in line behind all those newly insured when they thought obamacare was going to take care of overcrowded emergency rooms.

And I guarantee minorities will be treated first.

If the comments to the article are any indication, the 2014 election is going to be a blood-bath for the Demonrats!

Over 5,000 comments and they are running about 75-1 against the Demonrats!
