Mitch McConnell on debt ceiling: I ‘protect’ the country
The Politico ^ | February 15, 2014 | Burgess Everett

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said he voted to advance a clean debt-ceiling bill this week because his job is “to protect the country” when he can.

The Republican leader said at a Friday campaign event in Louisville, Ky., that he has long preferred making structural changes to fiscal policy as a condition to raising the debt ceiling.

But given that the House could pass only a clean debt ceiling — every policy rider Speaker John Boehner tried to attach failed to garner sufficient support — McConnell said he was left with one option: Avoid economic catastrophe.

McConnell and most of his leadership team voted to break a filibuster demanded by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), to the ire of many conservatives and surprise of Capitol Hill, given his recently stated opposition to any clean lift of the debt ceiling.

“We were confronted with a clean debt ceiling in the Senate or default. I believe I have to act in the best interests of the country, and every time we’ve been confronted with a potential crisis, the guy you’re looking at is the one who stepped up to solve the problem,” McConnell told reporters, according to Associated Press video....

The GOP is the junior member of the uniparty. It is silly to think future elections alone can reverse what past elections gave us. Obama has established executive precedents that no election can erase.

During his 30 years in office, our national debt has become catastrophic, without a meaningful effort of the GOP to curb it. Retire him, because obviously he is not capable or courageous enough to do the job.

When the Senate Minority leader(?) parrots the dhimmicrap talking point (no debt ceiling increase = economic disaster), we are truly a one-party nation.

Time for a third party, quickly.

The sad and alarming part is, that he actually believes he's heroic.

It's important to recognize how many government officials, having grabbed the "debt is money" tiger by the tail, are terrified now to let go.

By creating a gigantic dependent class, they have ensured a zombie apocalypse when the EBT cards stop working, and it is possible to look at preventing that zombie apocalypse as "protecting the country".

None of the GOPe has come right out and said, "après moi le déluge", but it's a certainty that a lot of them are thinking that.

Mitch McConnell on debt ceiling: I ‘protect’ the country…

The proverbial scoundrel bolts for his last refuge.

Well, maybe it plays in Peoria (or whichever locations the congenitally Republican continue to enable the man). It would be one thing if he were really playing Orde Wingate to a Churchillian conservative base, but the truth is, he hasn't been "our senator"* for quite some time. Sadly for him, Mitch lacked the wit to know when to make the grand exit. While he will have plenty of "good weeks" in the future due to his valuable membership in the FedGov Millionaire's Club, his "bad week" (as the WaPo puts it) has exposed his mendacity just as his anger with the nominal "tea party" over the Obamacare filibuster exposed his spiteful nastiness. The combination will likely hand his seat to a Democrat, and he knows it… still, if he can't have it for himself, he'll make damned sure no other Republican will have it. That's "protection" with a vengeance!

One of the more entertaining things about the recent displays in the Mitch McConnell Outs Himself 2014 Exhibition is the "it's Ted Cruz' fault" meme. Ted Cruz didn't have the power to make Mitch McConnell look like some power-hungry, clinging-for-dear-life caricature of a political charlatan… only Mitch McConnell himself could pull that off, and he did it the old-fashioned way.

He earned it.

*Senator is not the term Churchill used.

So tell us what the GOP plans to do if we give them the senate and maintain the house?
Give us all just a couple of examples?

nodda dyam thing..

They don’t have the presidency (This is them talking not me) if we the people give that to them.. well.. they still won’t do a dyam thing..

The GOP is useless. The rats have infested it to the point that it’s nothing but a shell.

Some are calling for a 3rd party. I say we start with a second.

We can’t do anything.

Innovative, understand how you feel. I felt the same way. Problem is strategy from the RINO side is to do exactly what the Democrats are doing. Spend spend spend, get reelected and fill their bank accounts.

There are three political parties, conservatives, liberals and Marxists. Unfortunately two of the three parties call themselves Republicans. Until conservatives decide to form their own party this will continue. And if they don’t want to do it, we as a nation can’t do too much except stock up on ammo, get our own houses in order and unplug from the establishment.
