THE ATLANTIC WIRE ^ | 2/16/14 | CONNOR SIMPSON

Allegations Sen Menendez (Dem-NJ) was flown on a private aircraft to campaign donor Salomon E. Melgen's villa in the Dominican Republic (and provided with prostitutes) were first reported by the Daily Caller, then again by emails leaked to Breitbart.

The investigation WRT allegations Menendez intervened to protect Melgen's $500M port security deal remains to be seen. Melgen's West Palm Beach offices were raided by the FBI....Menendez reportedly stepped in when Melgen was accused of overbilling Medicare for $9 million. Menendez maintains his relationship is on the up and up, and that he has never been bought by anyone.

AP reported that Dominican Republic Judge Ismael Ramirez ordered testimony from Menendez and Melgen. They wouldn’t be required to appear in court at a June 10 hearing but could send attorneys.

A Menendez spokeswoman told the AP that the senator doesn’t plan to attend.

The ruling came after 23-year-old woman Nexis de los Santos filed legal documents in the Dominican Republic asking officials to block any possible arrests that would result from what she now says are her false allegations that she was a prostitute involved in the scandal, according to the AP.

Despite the controversy dogging him for weeks, Menendez told The Star-Ledger that he has remained focused on his job. “I haven’t missed a beat, and I’m not going to allow baseless, anonymous smears to deviate my attention to the work on behalf of the people of New Jersey, as well as in my position as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee,” he said.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC MEDDLES IN US AFFAIRS--DOES SAVING MENENDEZ MEAN BIG BUCKS TO CORRUPT DOMINICAN POLS?---AP is reporting that Vincio Castillo Seman, the Dominican lawyer involved in Menendez's sex-mess, is hog-tied to the top echelon of the corrupt Dominican govt---his father is a Dominican presidential adviser and his brother is a member of the Dominican Republic Congress.

A GLIMPSE AT DISGUSTING DOMINICAN CORRUPTION Castillo is an integral part of Menendez's sex-mess--Castillo apparently hosted sex outings on his yacht where Menendez got lubed by Dominican prostitutes. Like Menendez, Castillo has strongly denied the allegations and is seeking a criminal probe into the source of the reports. On Monday, Castillo distributed copies of the woman's sworn statement to reporters---she went AWOL and was incommunicado.

SAVING MENENDEZ'S SORRY A** MEANS OBAMA'S REACHING FOR THE FEDERAL CHECKBOOK Vincio Castillo said de los Santos claims she and a friend were approached by another Dominican lawyer, Melanio Figueroa. The two women recited the accusations on a video that they said was recorded without their consent, The Miami Herald reported Melanio Figueroa denied orchestrating the accusations against Menendez.

THREE-ALARM FIRE SOON TO BE REPORTED Ut, oh---I hope Melanio's got hard copies of the paper trail.

=========================================

Americans should rise up in anger and demand corrupt Dominican Republic politicians stop meddling in our affairs. Clearly Menendez/Melgen colluded and conspired with the top echelon of the corrupt Dominican govt to bailout Menendez. These shady tactics diminsh and marginalize the grassroots American democratic process. Menendez in league with Third World pols is a side show we can do without.

Its reprehensible to see Dominican national Vincio Castillo Seman sucking up for Menendez. He should be sidelined along with his father---a Dominican presidential adviser---and his brother---a member of the DR Congress.

MEMO TO THE CASTILLO FAMILY Keep out, and stay out, of American affairs.

Menendez crassly used tax-paid US govt resources, govt authority, and his privileged position, to convene a special hearing on the insider port deal---Menendez was the only Senator present but the hearing had the full force of the US govt. Self-serving Menendez dragged US officials up to the Hill for questioning---pressuring US officials about why the Dominican port deal had not gone through.

The Times quotes Menendez at the hearing: "You have another company (his deal) that has 'American investors' that is seeking to - has a contract actually given to it by the - kind of ratified by the Dominican Congress----to do X-ray of all of the cargo that goes through the ports, which have been problematic and for which in the past narcotics have been i ncluded in those cargo," the senator said. Menendez reinforced his authority by later phoning US officials at the Depts of State and Commerce.

REFERENCE A Miami paper is reporting that cargo flights carried millions of US greenbacks in suitcases, cargo containers and money bags from Mexico to Texas, and then to Miami Intl Airport, on a routine schedule. From there, authorities say, the money was laundered by two Mexican businessmen through a Miami-Dade check-cashing company that used the dollars to cash the payroll checks of undocumented workers at local supermarkets.

It was all part of a Mexican-Miami bulk-cash network that federal agents say may be funded by drug profits south of the US border.

The culprits--Martin Diaz and Enrique Guerra--arrested earlier this month, appeared before a federal magistrate on charges of conspiring to launder US dollars for the purpose of “harboring illegal aliens’’ in this country. (Excerpt) Read more at miamiherald.com ...

POLITICO revealed that Dr Melgen assiduously courted President Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, but that Melgen was unhappy with the return on his campaign donation "investments."

After meeting briefly with Obama at a 2010 fundraiser that Dr Melgen paid $30,400 to co-host, the eye doctor complained that “Obama didn’t even give him the time of day,” according to a source who travels in the same Miami political circles as Melgen.

The source said Melgen also expressed frustration that he couldn’t take his concerns about his questionable Medicare billing practices directly to Obama’s Health and Human Services Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius.

“He was ranting about HHS and Sebelius not understanding and not wanting to listen to him and not giving him a hearing,” said the source, who did not want to be identified WRT revealing the contents of private conversations.

CONTACT jonathan dienst (@jonathan4ny)
WNBC Chief Investigative Reporter and NBC News Contributing Correspondent.

Ace WNBC reporter, Jonathan Dienst, did the towering investigation of NJ Sen Robert Torricelli which forced the crook out of office.

Dienst himself has said "....the investigation of Senator Torricelli’s alleged corruption was an extraordinary exercise in journalism; going out and spending about six months on that story working almost non-stop digging and digging, trying to find corroboration to allegations that the senator had an improper relationship with a convicted felon."

" So we were out meeting with merchants, meeting with defense lawyers, meeting with investigators, members of Congress, and meeting with anyone who might have information about the senator’s alleged wrong doing."

"We obtained documents, tapes and materials and it was at a very important time. The election was coming up, the balance of power weighed in the balance and the fact that we were able to show and highlight some of the senator’s activities so that the voters knew. That was an incredible story to be a part of."
