Our View: U.S. Sen. John McCain (D-Arizona?)

As long as we have a few Democrats in town, why not throw a match onto an issue that’s waiting to flame?

The Cochise County Democrat Party should endorse John McCain for re-election to the U.S. Senate.

Tell us we’re wrong.

Arizona’s senior senator has lost the love of local and state Republican Party officials, who made national news just a few weeks ago denouncing the war hero for his “liberal” leanings.

Before Cochise County joined the fray, McCain had already been censured by three county Republican parties, most notably Maricopa, the state’s largest GOP group.

Cochise County wasn’t far behind, passing a resolution to censure McCain last month.

Casey Jones, the head of the county Republican committee, said he was personally offended when the senator stood in the Well of the Senate and on national TV said some Republicans are “wacko birds.”

“Some of his actions are not in accord with what we understand Republican principles and platform positions to be,” Jones said.

There were catcalls from all over Arizona on the senator’s failure to deliver a fence along the international border, his perceived weakness on Second Amendment issues, and his willingness to work with Democrats.

If McCain was fruit for the Democrats, he would be resting among the lowest branches. So incensed was his response to being embarrassed by rebukes from Republicans in Cochise, Maricopa and other Arizona counties, that he announced he’s almost certainly going to seek another term.

It’s an opportunity for the Democrats in Arizona to recognize the traits of a U.S. Senator who wins with moderate positions on immigration reform and other leading issues.

Where state Republicans see dishonesty and betrayal, others see a distinguished and senior senator who has stayed long enough in Congress to have the best office at the Capitol building.

Democrats are huddling in public tonight in Bisbee at the posh settings of the Cafe Roka, with lots of candidates for state offices expected at the bash.

This party could use a little controversy in Arizona right now, so why not pick a fight?

"Look, you stupid Arizonans don't know how good you've got it! I'm the best thing for the state! Don't you know I'm a war hero? Now go home!"

"Oh! Heh heh heh heh! And don't forget to vote Republican!"

McCain always gives a “Reach Across” to any democrat who wants one, but ignores non-RINO republicans and viciously attacks conservatives.

With RINOs like McCain as so-called part leaders, the republicans will keep going backwards.

John “Songbird” McCain is the national poster child for Stockholm Syndrome.

I will never forget his own words at the 2008 Convention: “They broke me.”

I hate to say it, but after his bravery in Vietnam, he should have retired to his beer fortune and maybe become a flutist or organic tomato farmer, anything but his constant RINO nonsense.

I don’t wish McCain dead, but otherwise, I wish him to follow in the footsteps of Arlen Specter.

Dear Siera Vista Herald, this guy has been representing the media for years. He could care the less about Arizona and his supposed constituents. John McCain D-Arizona!?!? You think this is the first time that notion has been tossed around? You think he has not come close to crossing over the aisle before you printed it!?!? Please. He is by for and of himself. While I salute his service it does not insulate him from severe character flaws that, but for being shot down over Vietnam, would have rendered him a lout at best.

Would anyone please explain how McCain became the GOP nominee for President? Who controls the GOP?

McCain is the DNC’s secret weapon against Arizona Republicans. They were able to hold that Senate seat for quite some time by just having Johnny run as a Republican. He’s an ***hole.
