NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - The salt shortage persists in New Jersey. Officials have failed to get permission for a barge with 40 tons of salt to set sail for the tristate region

Angel Morales, a resident of Jersey City says her car just won’t go anywhere.

“Look, you see I went up and I started sliding back,” she said.

40 tons x 2000 = 80,000 lbs
80,000 lbs / 45 (c.f. per pound salt, granulated, piled)= 1,777.77 c.f.
1,777.77 / 27 = 65.84 cu. yds = 5 dump trucks at the least.

It doesn’t snow in Atlanta, except for when it does.

Live by the Regulatory Regime, suffer the consequences. Had “Joisey” not gone Democommie long ago, they could have gotten the salt they need.

Try reading the article. The shortage is being caused by a 1920 Federal Maritime Law.

Maritime laws that are causing this problem have been on the books forever... I suspect “homeland’ wants bribes...

Who actually uses salt anymore? Here in PA they use Sand Cinder.

U could say they aren’t used to it but half of Atlanta is Yankee now

The other half black

Southern whites retreated to the woods and mountains

I’m only half kidding

Atlanta is hilly...and it ices given the latitude

The problem is because of the 1920 federal Maritime Act. It prevents foreign vessels from moving cargo from one U.S. port to another. It was designed to protect the U.S. shipping industry from foreign competition. The barge sailed empty, leaving the salt in Maine

The US GOVERNMENT did it!................

Pretty obvious what’s going on here- the administration is trying to stick it to Krispy Kreme (and is probably trying to make him cough up some info about the bridge closings in return for salt deliveries). It’s stuff like this that shows why the GOP-e should be as terrified of what’s going on with this lawless administration as everybody else is (and should accordingly, take action against it)- and yet, this is their own favorite candidate, and they still don’t get it...

Don’t know but as the crow flies that is near me.

This stuff is going to melt and when it does I hope we don’t get major flooding.

I did. Lots of barges available, as are RR cars.

Bad planning because there are no personal consequences for such issues.

Joisey should hurt because stupid must hurt if learning is to be sought by the stupid.

So NJ can’t get salt for its weather emergency because of what’s commonly known as the Jones Act. An act which the President has the authority to suspend in special cases; an authority used by several presidents over the years. So why doesn’t Gov. Christy call up his good buddy weather rescuer and ask him to do what he does best, suspend another law? Might it be that the protecting maritime unions is more important than protecting those icebound in NJ?
