The Obama administration will attempt to resume talks with the Taliban to free the only known American soldier in captivity in exchange for the release of Taliban prisoners held at the U.S. detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The move is an attempt to free Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl before the majority of US forces leave Afghanistan by the end of 2014, the report in the Washington Post said, citing current and former officials. The swap would trade Bergdahl for five Taliban members who would be released from Guantanamo Bay into protective custody in Qatar, the Post reported.

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Might as well, they’ll just release them sooner or later.
Make sure Bowe is alive before releasing these terrorists!
Go the Snake Pliskin route. Make the trade then 24 hours later their caratoid explodes.
Hostage taking WORKS!
Message received by Neanderthals, loud and clear.
Put GPS chips in them and drone strike them once they get back to Afghanistan.
Prayers for this wonderful US soldier’s safe return.
Negotiating with terrorists. Sets a really bad precedent.
Maybe a little pellet of radioactive material in an organ somewhere as a souvenier of their stay with us....
He's the worst. Even Carter wasn't this bad.
5! you insult us with only 5? We want them all!
Obama couldn’t negotiate the price of beer at a free beer happy hour
Isn’t this the GI that just walked away over to the enemy side for no particular known reason?? Did he desert his post?? Did he convert to Islam?? Just questions that have crossed my mind.
You overlook the fact that all the prisoners previously have a high frequency /gps locator beacon operating a insane low power. The bugs are not detectable by the normal sweep devices. The injection process is such that there is no visible scar. Only the GE MRI devices will detect them and that requires very skilled physician.
I’m not sure if we should be insulted or honored.
Is it insulting to exchange one American for five talibans?
Shouldn’t that be, one American for one taliban?
Or should we interpret that it takes five talibans to equal one whole human being?
In addition to — for the first time — admitting immigrants with terror ties.. now we have this.. negotiating with terrorists.
Yet another of a plethora of reasons leftists must never be given the reigns of power.
“This wonderful US soldier” walked away from his FOB.
He’d have been back in the land of the big cheeseburger over three years ago if he would have stayed at his post.
Yeah, sucks to be him but he’s the one who placed himself in that position.
We do need to get him back just because he’s a US soldier but he’s no hero.
That would be a win/win!
This guy's disappearance and capture are really strange.
My first thought was the guy had psychological issues or extreme political issues.
An earlier comment nails the solution, though.
Since we will eventually release all the bad guys at Gitmo anyway, why not trade now for the missing American?
Exactly, the PA would trade prisoners with the Israelis but kill them just before doing so.
It sucks, but should we just leave him behind?
You DO remember that uber-metrosexual Obama is in charge, don’t you? His loony Leftist base would revolt if he did or even said that! They ARE revolting, just not against him yet.
He may be an idiot, but he is still our idiot.
Which is basically what I said.
He is no hero....
I think it’s a good Idea, track the five ragheads when they leave wait till they get to Afstan and then call out the UAV’s
and tell that soldier not to wonder off again.
Ronald Reagan offered no exchanges and all of the Americans were returned
Maybe we should be devoting more resources to locate and extract him. Its just a matter of priorities.
If you look at other “hostage” situations elsewhere (e.g., Iran, North Korea) as a guide, its evident that Obama isn’t pushing for releases (even though he has leverage). He doesn’t really want to exercise any form of American power over our adversaries.
I suspect the administration hasn’t, unitl recently, been sufficiently motiviated to deal with this man’s plight. But since we are withdrawing now, decisions are being pushed by political considerations.
Obama wants to clear out Gitmo before he leaves office so he’s now motivated to “horse trade”. I think its the wrong approach.
Good trade, we can kill the vermin later with drones.
