It sucks, but should we just leave him behind?
Maybe we should be devoting more resources to locate and extract him. Its just a matter of priorities.
If you look at other “hostage” situations elsewhere (e.g., Iran, North Korea) as a guide, its evident that Obama isn’t pushing for releases (even though he has leverage). He doesn’t really want to exercise any form of American power over our adversaries.
I suspect the administration hasn’t, unitl recently, been sufficiently motiviated to deal with this man’s plight. But since we are withdrawing now, decisions are being pushed by political considerations.
Obama wants to clear out Gitmo before he leaves office so he’s now motivated to “horse trade”. I think its the wrong approach.
