Chick-fil-A fans lined up Wednesday hoping to be among the first 100 people through the doors of the first Western Massachusetts location.

In keeping with Chick-fil-A tradition, those "First 100" will receive 52 free Chick-fil-A meal certificates for a year – a total of more than $30,000 in free food, owner / operator Robert Hewes said in a news release.

The restaurant is at 501 Memorial Drive in Chicopee.

Participants, 18 years and older with identification, can line up no earlier than 24 hours prior to the store's grand opening set for 6 a.m. Thursday. Participants do need to camp out to reserve their space in line.

Also on Wednesday, the new restaurant is hosting a food drive in partnership with The Boys and Girls Club of Chicopee until 8 p.m. Anyone dropping off four or more non-perishable food items will receive a coupon for a free Chick-fil-A sandwich.

This is Chick-fil-A's first store in Western Massachusetts. Well known for its chicken-breast sandwich, the restaurant also features breakfast burritos, yogurt parfaits, slow-cooked multigrain oatmeal and its signature Chick-fil-A Chicken Biscuit.

For those of you in Rio Linda, Chicopee was at one point has a preponderance of Americans of Polish decent, as well as local banks flush with cash. Also, Memorial Drive is a major road that can get you to Westover Airforce Base.

I wonder if these items played a part in their decision to locate their...

Why those filthy, stingy, greedy, hating, good for nothing, God fearing conservatives. Just look at the way they behave... giving away food and running a food drive for the poor. How much more selfish can they get? Have they no compassion?

They have to give free food and do charity drives for favored liberal causes, such as Gay Men’s Health Crisis centers. I wonder if that would atone for the liberal sin of not supporting homosexual marriage.

There is a strong totalitarian streak in liberalism.

It's a good thing that Mayor Tom “Mumbles” Menino declared Boston a Chic Fil A free zone a year or so ago.We can't have *that* kind of “hate” operating in the Athens of America.

First of all...it must be noted that there are more Canadians in Florida in January than there are in Tranna (I know where that is...I looked it up).Second of all...if one opened up in Calgary what on earth would the breakfast bacon sandwich look like? ;-)

I haven’t won any contest but I’ve already had Chick-fil-a give me 2 free sandwiches, plus another time the manager brought my wife and I free drinks while we were eating. I don’t know anyone that works there but they have my loyalty.

Personally, I prefer McDonald's coffee now, BUT with so many Canadians in FL, a Timmies franchise would be a winner, in spite of poor service by people who cannot speak English or French.

Everyone who left also got a gift card for a free breakfast, free warm cookie samples were given out and kids got a free stuffed cow. Those evil greedy capitalists.
