Former “Dirty Jobs” host Mike Rowe narrates a powerful new commercial released Thursday and it contains one powerful message: “Work is a beautiful thing.”

Who’s it for? Walmart.

“At one time I made things and I took pride in the things I made, and my belts whirred, and my engines cranked,” Rowe says in the video, delivering a monologue from the perspective of the factory as related images flash across the screen. “I opened my doors to all and together we filled pallets and trucks. I was mighty. And then one day the gears stopped turning.”

Bob Beckel is a first class moron. I stopped watching Fox because of people like Beckel. Fox would do well by replacing Beckel with opposition spokespersons who can provide sound reasoning behind their opposition (that is if they can find them). Beckel brings nothing to the table except talking points wrapped in hyperbole. Time to retire Beckel and his load-securing suspenders.

Yep. I don’t know who the hell Ben Walton is.

He was John-Boy's second youngest brother, I think.

I knew I’d heard that name somewhere. “Good night, Sam-boy.”

You nailed it. Maybe you recognize some of the names:

Stanley Tools
Corbin Locks
North & Judd
Landers, Frary & Clark

...those are the ones I remember most; generations of Polish immigrants could find work in a factory, buy a home and raise a family. Many tool & die shops dotted every corner....mostly doing work for Pratt & Whitney.

At this point, poor New Britain is a wasteland....as there is nothing much left to support the city. Sad.

**Mr. Sam Walton is reported to have said, “Each Wal-Mart store should reflect the values of its customers and support the vision they hold for their community.” The heirs of Mr. Sam can, if you act right now, make available the products of American workers to the communities of America so our communities can put their money where their values are.**

http://www.waltonusa.net/

I admit to knowing little or nothing on the Waltons and the store. From what little I’ve read, Sam was a promoter of Made-in-USA...and his heirs were the ones who sold out that philosophy.

**That was right after Hillary Clinton was on the Walmart board of directors for 6 years.

She left in 1992. Coincidentally (?) Sam Walton died the same year.

In 1993, Bill Clinton became the president and put NAFTA into effect, and opened free trade with China.

That’s when the Made in USA motto was replaced with “Watch for falling prices,” with workers shown wearing hard hats in advertisements. Made in China products replaced Made in USA products on Walmart shelves**

I agree, Beckel is piece of work, we could do without.

What he has to do w/ Walmart and Mike Rowe escapes me. :)
