President Obamas forthcoming budget request will seek tens of billions of dollars in fresh spending for domestic priorities while abandoning a compromise proposal to tame the national debt in part by trimming Social Security benefits.
With the 2015 budget request, Obama will call for an end to the era of austerity that has dogged much of his presidency and to his efforts to find common ground with Republicans. Instead, the president will focus on pumping new cash into job training, early-childhood education and other programs aimed at bolstering the middle class, providing Democrats with a policy blueprint heading into the midterm elections.
As part of that strategy, Obama will jettison the framework he unveiled last year for a so-called grand bargain that would have raised taxes on the rich and reined in skyrocketing retirement spending. A centerpiece of that framework was a proposal demanded by GOP leaders to use a less-generous measure of inflation to calculate Social Security benefits.
The idea infuriated Democrats and never gained much traction with rank-and-file Republicans, who also were unwilling to contemplate tax increases of any kind. On Thursday, administration officials said that the grand-bargain framework remains on the table but that it was time to move on.
Over the course of last year, Republicans consistently showed a lack of willingness to negotiate on a deficit-reduction deal, refusing to identify even one unfair tax loophole they would be willing to close, said a White House official, speaking on the condition of anonymity to describe the budget before its official release. That is not going to stop the president from promoting new policies that should be part of our public debate.
Republicans said emerging details of the presidents budget prove he was never serious about addressing the nations long-term debt problems.

GOP and Obama = useless and hopeless
Hooray! The days of $ trillion deficit belt tightening are over. Now we can REALLY cut loose.
“Austerity”? Really... I must have slept through THAT!
The actual austerity hit the military.
And he won’t restore that.
This is just speeding up the job of breaking us financially.

It’s amazing how good of a chess player Obama is and how silly you Republicans are. He keeps beating you. Do you really think the Dems will approve this budget? Obama is not running for anything this year.
OF COURSE he’s going to propose more spending. The Dems reject it. They look fiscally responsible AND publicly distance themselves from Obama prior to the midterms. Economy roaring in November (the deficit is projected to be lowest since 2000 by November). They keep the Senate. If you guys can’t see that, then you willfully blinding yourselves.

To give the Senate Dems the opportunity to kill it, look fiscally responsible, and publicly distance themselves from Obama. This is chess not checkers. Obama is not running for anything this year. He has nothing to lose by setting the Senate Dems up for a victory prior to the mid-terms. I’m surprised I have to explain that to you.
Sorry about previous post.
I was experimenting with html tables and did not mean to post yet.
Anyway, the CBO Historical Budget Figures are at this link:
http://www.cbo.gov/latest/Budget/Historical-Budget-Data
US fiscal year begins on 1 October and ends on 30 September of the next calendar year, the identification of a fiscal year is the calendar year in which it ends.
So you see that in 2009 Federal outlays increased from less than $3 Trillion to over $3.5 Trillion.
Spending has been around $3.5 Trillion ever since. (This is why liberal pundits claim that spending has not increased under Obama. They claim Bush created the 2009 budget in October of 2008, and Obama was merely following the budgewt of his predecessor.)
But who ever you blame, you see the spending increased by over $1 Trillion under Bush (over 50%), and increased an additional $500 Billion (20%) the first year under Obama.
So austerity is increasing spending from <$2 Trillion to >$3.5 Trillion in 14 years.
Only in liberal La La land can you call trillion dollar deficits "austerity". Either the WaPo is simply stupid, of they think that ALL of the rest of us are.
The Elizabeth Warren wing of the Democrat Party has won the battle.
Which era of austerity is that?
He’s been spending like a shipload of drunken sailors since BEFORE he took office.
“Austerity” is not quite the word I would have used.
