I know the EU is trying to take control and then Russia is pushing back.

The majority of Ukrainians want a closer alliance with the European Union. The EU is not "trying to take control",the people are. It's true that the EU is a very imperfect entity but is light years better than is Vlad Putin's "New and Improved" USSR.I'm stunned and saddened to see Freepers here who are supporting the KGB Golden Boy in this matter.I suspect they're the same ones who said in November 2012 "Romney's not Reagan and he's not Palin, therefore he's no better than Obama...so I'm staying home".

I also expect those same Freepers to come out and proclaim what a brave and wise act it was for Obama to whisper that he'll show Vlad "more flexibility" after the 2012 election.

Well stated.

Good post. I live here in the EU, and while it’s not perfect (nothing is, let’s face it) it’s a damned sight better than Putin’s “Soviet Union 2.0”; and you’re quite right - the majority of Ukrainians WANT a closer alliance with the EU, and not just folks in the Western part of Ukraine.

So conservatives support the violent overthrow of a freely-elected president? I don’t think so. That is why there are elections, which we coming up soon anyways.

This is the violent removal of one corrupt leader and his possible replacement, Tymoshenko, is also corrupt and quite possibly a killer.

The armed thugs who did this are mostly from a neo-Nazi party.

The eastern more affluent part of the country doesn’t want to be governed by putschists who will now steal what they can from the east.

This will end up damaging Ukraine and its peaceful development.

The Russian have not treated the Ukrainians very well historically. Stalin starved millions of them, so it is still understandable that the Ukraine would prefer and alliance with the West rather then with Russia.
