There's a side to this story that didn't get any mention in the article.

This move, along with the one announced a few months ago regarding penalties for profanity, is aimed at cleaning up the language on the field for the sole purpose of adding enhanced live-mike audio to NFL broadcasts. The ultimate application of this would be for NFL fans watching a game on television to have the option to select players on the field from their homes and listen to them during the game.

You can't have that sort of thing with all sorts of "n!ggas," "eff this," and "eff that" on the field.

This enhanced live mike onfield is ridiculous...There is no need or reason for a TV fan to hear what is said onfield....
