Harold Ramis, Chicago actor, writer and director, dead at 69
Chicago Tribune ^ | 2/24/2014 | Mark Caro

Harold Ramis was one of Hollywood’s most successful comedy filmmakers when he moved his family from Los Angeles back to the Chicago area in 1996. His career was still thriving, with “Groundhog Day” acquiring almost instant classic status upon its 1993 release and 1984’s “Ghostbusters” ranking among the highest-grossing comedies of all time, but the writer-director wanted to return to the city where he’d launched his career as a Second City performer.

“There's a pride in what I do that other people share because I'm local, which in L.A. is meaningless; no one's local,” Ramis said upon the launch of the first movie he directed after his move, the 1999 mobster-in-therapy comedy “Analyze This,” another hit. “It's a good thing. I feel like I represent the city in a certain way.”

Egon Spengler: “I collect mold, spores, and fungus.”

Funny guy. Incredible comic sense.

The stuff he did early in his career on the old SCTV program out of Toronto was just hilarious. He wrote most of it and worked with a very talented cast (John Candy, Eugene Levy, Catherine, O’Hara, etc.)

He will be missed.

That is a creepy coincidence.

Several months ago, I thought of a high school teacher I had many, many years ago. Googled him, found out some “current” info about him, and within days after that, he died. (Glad to hear this stuff does not happen only “to me”.)

LOL!

I remember seeing Stripes back in ‘81. That was a funny scene!

Wow. Can’t believe he was 69 and is now gone. He always looked much younger than he was. Didn’t he also do a cameo as one of the caddies in Caddyshack?

Thanks for the laughs, funny man.

I for one am counting on our good Lord having an amazing sense of humor, so RIP for a few Mr. Ramis, and then set to work entertaining The Boss.

Will have to sit down for still another viewing of Ghostbusters tonight.

That’s creepy - I just removed him from my laptop wallpaper last week (him and Bill Murray at the Army recruiters’ office in Stripes).

Please put Bill Murray back ASAP!!!
