AUSTIN (Legal Newsline) – Senator Ted Cruz sent Chief Justice Nathan Hecht the best valentine he could Friday, his endorsement for Hecht’s campaign for re-election to the Texas Supreme Court.

Hecht

“Senator Cruz has been outspoken in advocating that the U.S. Constitution should be America’s guidepost,” Hecht said in a press release of the Texas Republican.

“When Senator Cruz was Solicitor General of Texas, he saw the Texas Supreme Court first-hand in many cases. Because he has had a unique opportunity to watch the court at work, I am especially honored that he has expressed confidence in me as chief justice.”

In his endorsement of Hecht, Cruz said the justice “is a strong principled conservative, with a deep passion for our Constitution. For decades, Chief Justice Hecht has led the judicial conservatives on the Texas Supreme Court, and I’m proud to endorse him.”

In the March primary, Hecht will square off against former state Rep. Robert E. Talton.

“As a Justice for many years, and now as chief justice, I have worked to help ensure that the Supreme Court’s decisions are fair and in the mainstream of American law,” Hecht said.

“I am privileged to lead a Court that is respected for its commitment to the rule of law and access to justice for all.”

Texas voters can vote in the Republican Primary starting on Tuesday, Feb. 18 through Friday, Feb. 28.

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all." -- President Ronald Reagan

I don’t think there was much doubt about the outcome.Hecht was first elected to the
Supreme Court in 1988 and was reelected to six-year terms in 1994, 2000, and 2006.

Wish Ted would endorse one of Cornyn’s opponents.

Get sick yesterday when I opened my NRA magazine and found a full page ad touting Cornyn’s conservative credentials.

One of the local news channels mentioned the physical absence of Stockman from the races and what an awful race he is running - no fundraising, no appearances, etc. Wonder if he was a candidate just as a diversion and if Cornyn ended up being in a two person run-off with him, Cornyn would be a shoe in. Shrewd political move and after a few years of working in Texas politics, nothing would surprise me.

I have gotten so many endorsements by groups calling themselves Conservatives. So far they all start of with Cornyn and they get tossed out. Wish I could get a whole list from Cruz! Who else beside Paxton has Cruz endorsed?

Which is why I’ve stopped supporting the NRA financially. It wasn’t much money wise, but every bit counts.

Cruz doesn’t have to. The people know who Cornyn is now. The only way he can win is if the dumocrats help him by fraud.
